Five Rings, Two Sons and a Goat: Bill Belichick Is In a Good Spot

"Special. Yeah, special – unlike any other, really. It was obviously great to have Steve, but to also have Brian too, I mean, it’s special.” When a famously dry and curmudgeonly man uses the word special three times in one quote, you start to take notice.

If you think there is a coach in all of sports that has it better off than New England Patriots head football coach Bill Belichick, you are mistaken.

His son Brian - formerly a Patriots scout - will be joining his brother Steve as an assistant coach this year, working under their legendary father. Belichick famously studied the game as his own father toiled as a scout for Navy football team in the 1950's. Coaching is truly now a family affair.

Added to the daily family reunion at Patriot Place is the fact that Belichick will be donning his fifth Super Bowl ring as a member of the Patriots and seventh overall. His five rings as a head coach are a record. He may not be done yet, however.

The true coup de grace is that Belichick is really blessed with what is almost a third son: Patriots All-Pro quarterback Tom Brady. Belichick and Brady, Brady and Belichick. The two have been nearly inseparable professionally since the quarterback was drafted 199th overall in 2000.

Seven trips to the Super Bowl. Five rings. Countless wins. A mountain of touchdowns. A bond that transcends the white lines of a field.

Five Rings. Two sons. And the Greatest Of All Time.
