Get Into the Nectar Queen’s Hive At Splinterlands

Introduction

Talking about Splinterlands and the attack strategies, if you are like me, then you think of a powerful melee attack monster in the front. When I say melee attack, I mean the one which is a combination of high attack value, has a high level of health and at times can obliterate the opposition on its own. I am sure you are getting the drift.

So, do we have such an imposing melee attacker? There are few, and out of them, the Nectar Queen is an impressive starter on my attack line-up.

Let’s get to know more about the Nectar Queen.

Nectar Queen – The Obliterator!

Nectar Queen was a card that I was so happy that I got. By the time I got the Nectar Queen, I already had an appreciation for the first attack monster in my line-up. In the absence of a strong frontal attack monster, the opposition quickly runs through our line-up, and we eventually lose.

It’s best to understand the importance of a melee attack monster like the nectar queen, with an example. Here’s one of my recent battles with the Earth Splinter. Take a look.

-----------------------------------------------******---------------------------------------------------

Screen 1: Enemy and Rules of the Fight

At the beginning of my game, I was presented with an enemy who seemed to prefer Earth Splinter attacks too. That means I had a good chance of having a Nectar Queen on the opposite side also.

The challenge was the Mana Cap. It was only 20, and I was wondering if I could squeeze in my Nectar Queen.

-----------------------------------------------******---------------------------------------------------

Screen 2: My Choice of Summoner and Monsters

So, I set out with the Earth Splinter and chose the Nectar Queen and with her the following line-up:

  1. Creeping Ooze
  2. Furious Chicken
  3. Wood Nymph
  4. Earth Elemental

The choice seemed to be perfectly fitting the mana-cap, and I was quite satisfied. The best part of the Earth Splinter is that the health of each of the monster goes up by one during the actual fight.

Games_Splint1_NectarQueen_Lineup.jpg

Of course, that also depends on your enemy’s choice of the summoner. But, in general, the +1 health means that the already potent Nectar Queen ends up with a health reading of 11.

That’s got to be cool!

-----------------------------------------------******---------------------------------------------------

Screen 3: Facing the Enemy

Okay, now I come face-to-face with the enemy, and I see a Unicorn Mustang on the opponent’s first attack position. While the Nectar Queen is quite strong, the second most potent attacker (as per me) in the Earth Splinter is the Unicorn Mustang. So, I would be excited to look at the outcome.

The only solace that I had was the enemy’s line-up. It is quite good but will it stand against my attack was the question.

Well then, why waste time? Time to rumble. 😊

-----------------------------------------------******---------------------------------------------------

Screen 4: And they Rumbled

Well, this is what happened when the fight started. My Nectar Queen could “miss” few attacks, but that was not even the cool part.

You would be surprised at the outcome of the attack. Now, remember, the opponent's line-up was also good, but I seemed to be better. How much better?

Look at the image to the right.

I was too good. By the time the attacks were over, the Nectar Queen stood unharmed. I mean, literally, unharmed.

Take a look at the Nectar Queen’s Health – it is still on eleven. A part of it was because of the Wood Nymph, but a good chunk is due to the Nectar Queen deflecting some attacks and hardly perturbed by the others.

How good is that?

So, I rest my case. Now, do you see the advantage of the Nectar Queen? I bet you do.

Strategies Around the Nectar Queen

The Nectar Queen, as I have already said, is a great attacker for any team. However, we need to have a good pairing for her to be successful. Here are a couple of my strategies

Strategy 1: Nectar Queen + Wood Nymph

This is a potent combination as the Nectar Queen is capable of taking nasty hits and yet stand firm. That said, without the renewal of her strength, the second round of attacks could finish the main attacker.

So, what do we do? We pair her with the Wood Nymph. Let me explain.

Take a look at this fight.

The Earth Splinter faces the Fire Splinter.
Games_Splint1_NectarQueen_Fire_1.jpg

Now, the Goblin Mech can be called an equivalent of the Nectar Queen coming from the common monsters. Besides, when used with the Fire Splinter, the Goblin Mech’s attack value goes to 5. That’s a serious opposition.

Now, take a look at the beating that the Nectar Queen takes.

Games_Splint1_NectarQueen_Fire2.jpg

See that? The Nectar Queen’s health level is down to 1.

But here’s where the Wood Nymph comes to play. While Wood Nymph is itself a Magic monster, it also adds health to its monsters in the first position. So, the health of the Nectar Queen improves, and she continues to be in play.

Now, if not for the Wood Nymph, the second round of attacks would have destroyed the Nectar Queen. And if you look at the line-up, after the Nectar Queen there was hardly any resistance. A loss would have been imminent.

Hah, the Wood Nymph saves the day!

-----------------------------------------------******---------------------------------------------------

Strategy 2: Battles Where Non-Flying Monsters take A Hit after Each Round

Now, there are situations where we need flying monsters that can take the opposition attacks, launch an attack itself and be able to survive the non-flying monster reduction in health.

I have tried out several Splinters where flying monsters are available. However, their primary health level is so low that they are killed even before the earthquake attack. The only one monster which can stand tall is the Nectar Queen.

So, such situations, I straight away turn to the Earth Splinter and the Nectar Queen.

-----------------------------------------------******---------------------------------------------------

Strategy 3: High Mana Cap

The other place that the Nectar Queen can be used is where there is a requirement of high Mana Cap. While the Mana cap itself is not the strategy but the availability of a high cap allows to bring in the Nectar Queen along with other heavyweight monsters of the Earth Splinter.

Another observation of the Earth Splinter is the availability of so many good monsters with lesser mana value. Hmm.. either way, the Nectar Queen can be squeezed in. 😊

Challenges of Using the Nectar Queen

Well, the challenge is not too difficult to fathom. In the case where the mana cap of the game is under 16, using the Nectar Queen becomes a tad difficult.

The reason is apparent. Any low mana cap game requires that we have multiple monsters to attack numerous times in one round. In such a case, the beasts of the death splinter form an excellent option.

The Earth Splinter and specifically, Nectar Queen would be killed in no time. That’s because she would be the only one attacking while taking multiple attacks from the opposition, and that would mean that she would be pulverized over two rounds of attack.

Not a workable solution, therefore. So, that’s why Nectar Queen may not be a good option in the low mana cap battles.

Which other Monsters from Other Splinters are Equivalents of the Nectar Queen?

There are a few such monsters that form an equivalent to the Nectar Queen from other splinters. One of them we just saw and a few of them we haven’t covered. So, let’s take a look at all of them.

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list.

Games_Splint1_NectarQueen_EquivalentMonsters.jpg

We saw one of the monsters in action in the battles against the Nectar Queen. Yes, we are talking about the Goblin Mech.

Let’s get to know each of the monsters in brief.

1. Molten Ogre – This is a monster belonging to the Fire Splinter and one with health more than the Nectar Queen. Because of the use under the Fire Splinter, it’s attack value increases to 4 when used in battle. That makes it one potent opponent.

2. Sea Monster – This is a self-healing monster from the Water Splinter. The self-healing ability allows the monster to continue despite a barrage of attacks and that makes it a potent opponent. Just imagine the Sea Monster being used along with the Crustacean King (a Wood Nymph equivalent), there would be no stopping this beast.

3. Shield Bearer – This monster belongs to the Life Splinter. Much like the Nectar Queen, it is one of my favorites. Why? Because this monster attracts all the opposing monsters’ ire towards itself and therefore, allows its compatriot monster to attack across the enemy. A very potent monster, in my opinion.

4. Goblin Mech – Well, we saw the Goblin Mech in action and how powerful it was. In one of our above battles, we saw the Goblin Mech contributing the most in reducing the health of the Nectar Queen down to 1. Besides, it has a piercing ability which makes it quite deadly.

5. Undead Rexx – And here’s one monster from the Death Splinter. The Rexx is one of the most potent in the list when it comes to attacking value. At attack level 5, it can take down the opposition monster in one attack. All the best, if you come across the Undead Rexx during your battles. So, that’s a small list of monsters worth watching out for when using Nectar Queen at the front.

How do We Level Up the Nectar Queen

We can make the already potent monster even more dangerous by leveling her up. The number of cards required to level up and the abilities unlocked is mentioned below.

Games_Splint1_NectarQueen_Levelup.jpg

At level 10, the Nectar Queen has a health level at 13 and two more abilities unlocked. How much more can you ask from this monster? 😊

As of now, there are level 10 Nectar Queen’s available on peakmonsters and Splinterlands at USD 9 and thereabout.

Not a bad deal to bolster your forces!

So, what do you think?

So, did this article help you formulate your own attack strategies, the next time you are going to use the Nectar Queen? I am sure it does.

If you don’t have it, head to Splinterlands market to buy 1. Like I said before, it is one monster you wouldn’t regret having in your arsenal! 😊
