Steem food tours 8: Shan Yuan Chinese restaurant, Kota damansara- MALAYSIA

22 April 2018, today we had started another great family day at this pleasent restaurant for lunch. This family outing was planed sometime ago, unfortunately it was drag till now (it's hard to arrange time which would pleased everyone). This is the first time my family and I have dine in this restaurant. It was no coincidence finding this restaurant, my mom wanted to look for a good place for the future if any large family is to be held. Two of her request is that they offered unique food and that the food is Chinese.( all my aunts and uncle prefers Chinese food). That is how I found this place to try out.

AMBIANCE

image.jpeg
This is the view you see once you step in into the restaurant. Looks kinda small but, there is more. There is another dining area that you would see as you go deeper. The restaurant is cooled with air conditioner. Despite the heat weather, it was cosy in here

image.jpeg
This is the hidden dining area I was mentioning before. If you wish to have privacy, they do offer private dining room but booking is to be made. This place can comfortably accommodate a small family party but wedding dinner may not fit unless smaller group.

DECORATIONS

image.jpeg
Near the entrance placed a fish tank, these fish are to be your meal.

image.jpeg
There are many interesting and beautiful 90's paintings hanging around the restaurant. These are some of many more.

Some tea pots and cups.

FOOD AND DRINKS

Chinese tea

image.jpeg
I recommend drinking any type of tea here to cut down the richness of the meal. I love the fancy transparent tea pot.

Price : 1.20 MYR ( 0.30 USD) /pax ( refillable)

stir fried Spanish collar pork

image.jpeg
Tender, savoury and smoky. The type of meat used is prefect with the cooking method. The fried Chinese croissant and fried garlic gives this dish a wonderful flavour, aroma and texture.

Price : 32 MYR ( 8 USD)

braised chicken with ginger and mushrooms

image.jpeg
Ladies and gentlemen, unless you are familiar with Chinese cuisine, I am sure you have never experienced such texture given from a chicken. Let me explain more, the chicken is usually soak in alkaline water to make its meat bouncy and in my opinion it make the chicken unique. Best of all its all chicken leg, no dry breast meat here!! Before I forget it's served in a claypot which means the food will be sizzling hot on the table for some time, most of the dish here is served that way.

Price : 24 MYR ( 6 USD)

grouper fish head

image.jpeg
The fish head is deep fried in such a way that the surface forms a satisfying thick crust protecting its delicate flesh. By the way, this is the fish that was in the fish tank before.

price: 40 MYR (10 USD)

abalone hoof with pig bone pot

image.jpeg
Another dish served in claypot. A strong fermented flavour that come from the fermented black soy bean and soy sauce is excellent with the pork throttle. The meat is so silky smooth, it's so rich and overloaded with gelatine from the pork throttle.

Price: 40 MYR (10 USD)

scallops

image.jpeg
This dish was a compliment from the chef, stir fried scallops. I love how they retained the delicate flavour while seasoning it with soy sauce and spices. I would happily pay full price for this if it is not free.

Price : free

SERVICE

I am truly impressed with the efficiency of the servers here, they deliver food fast and clear finished dish as soon as it was finished and refilled our tea without asking. The managers are friendly and entertaining.

ACCESSIBILITY

I would recommend coming here only on weekend if you are driving. Car parking slots here are usually filled to the limit on weekdays.

image.jpeg
Car park area are opened air so do check the weather forecast before coming over or just prepare a few umbrella just if its too sunny or raining.

OVERALL

Food was good, but what really impressed me is their service. Price wise is kinda pricey. It cost us four a total of
168.85 MYR ( 43 USD)including 10% service charge and 6% government tax. They accept credit and debit card. By the way, for my international friends, no tips are needed, you already paid in the 10% service charge. However you can tip more to your favourite server. For those who are squeamish of using dirty toilet, this restaurant have new and well maintained clean toilet. If you would like to share some photos of your meal you can get wifi here. To all my muslin friends, this is a non halal restaurant. Ingredients here are not certified kosher too.
