STEEM Food Tours #18: Genji Japanese Restaurant - Petaling Jaya

Konnichiwa! If you happen to know someone with Hilton Honors membership and at the same time you also happen to enjoy Japanese food (*never mind that there are many requirements to fulfill), I highly recommend the Genji Japanese Restaurant. Safely tucked within the Hilton Hotel Petaling Jaya, the all-you-can-eat Japanese style buffet dinner here is a great bargain. Basically, it's buy one get one free deal. Yes baby! I'm talking about a 50% discount.

For your information, I'm not the type who condones conspicuous consumption nor the stuff your face until your stomach burst kind. Neither do I eat like this everyday because I'm very well aware that there are starving children in Africa or India. However, since this offer is too good to resist, I had to try this place out at least once in my lifetime. Please don't hate me!

The selections here were insane. There were a variety of fresh sashimi (raw seafood) available such as salmon, tuna, white tuna, octopus and oysters. Then, there were an assortment of sushi, maki or temaki (rice wrapped in seaweed with varying toppings or fillings) in different shapes, sizes and color combinations. The unagi or grilled eels were juicy, plump and tender soft. Gosh, I hope I don't sound like a psychopathic serial killer!

For those who are more vegetarian inclined, there are salad bars, edamame and crispy vegetable tempura to help yourself with. The okra and sweet potato tempura were very delicious and a must try. Before I forget, there is a teppanyaki or grilled meat section available too for meat lovers.

Last but not least is the scrumptious dessert bar. There were cheese cakes, chocolate cakes, carrot cakes, ice-creams, rice cakes, jelly, azuki bean porridge, fruits and more. This place is definitely not meant for those on diet. Just eat your hearts out for one day then start exercising tomorrow onward. The only catch is that one must complete dining within 2 hours.

A Japanese buffet dinner for two after discount cost approximately RM142+ or USD36. Remember to make reservations way in advance because this place is almost always fully occupied. I prefer the first dinner session that's from 6pm to 8pm as one doesn't need to wait too long to be seated or served. According to reviews, guests in the second session sometimes need to wait a little longer if guests in the first session could not finish eating on time or when there was a long queue to pay the bills.
