This post serves as an entry for @cobmaximus' Funny Comic Strip Contest and the Theme is Alien. This is my second comic that I have made and It was made especially for this contest.
I really enjoyed the first contest that I had joined :) I was so moved by making the first comic so I decided to join this next contest.
Here's what I did to make the comic strip.
First I took a picture of the draft that I have made. As you can see I remade the meme of Gru (from Despicable Me) presenting his plan on stealing the moon to Mr. Perkins. The meme started over a month ago now I think. I thought why don't I try making that as my basis for the comic strip instead of ET (Extra-Terrestrial, the comic I should have made for this contest) and I really liked the idea of an alien presenting his plan to his boss xD.
Yeah its a bit messy, I was thinking of doing different poses that doesn't require much detail. I remembered the movie Paul so I kinda used him as a reference but a bit different from what he looks, my alien looks like Roger from American Dad haha.
Second, I imported the picture to Adobe Photoshop. I resized the first part so tracing would be easy. Then, I traced the picture using Pen tool and Brush tool to stroke. It was quite relaxing to do since I'm using the Pen tool to do the curves.
Doing this technique is good for us, it doesn't require that much work since we're tracing but this technique differs depending on the type of artist doing it since I'm still an amateur its good for me, hope that its good for you too.
Third, I continued on using the Pen tool to trace the remaining portions of the drawing. Stroking when the position is right. When tracing zoom in so that tracing would be easier.
Be sure to be on the right layer, always check this and name each layer to prevent the confusion or errors while tracing.
Fourth (Jhin sound effect haha just tryin' to be funny), after finishing the tracing, I positioned each alien in the right places ( I named each layer alien1 to alien4 to avoid the confusion in reorganizing it) then check for additional repairs on the aliens.
I really like the appearance of the alien, I didn't colored it since I'm still not used to the coloring style so I stayed with the uncolored alien.
Lastly, just like what I said in the fourth step try to check for additional repairs, I saw that the mouth in alien2 was not appropriate for the movement of the mouth so I changed it also it looked like alien1's mouth. After the repair, I added the frame/divider. Then the words was added after all that.
I have been thinking of the comic that I was going to make ever since the new theme was out, it was hard since the first one I have drawn was stickmen but in the end I was able to come up with this.
