What is a friend? Is it more then an acquaintance? Less then family? Equal to a brother? All and none of the above depending on how close the relationship is.
How close do you need to be? I believe a friend is the person who opens up to you, in a way knocking down your walls of reservation by exposing something of themselves. Largely that is what I do with everything in a brutally honest manner.
So am I friends with everyone? No! Many people will see this as weakness yet those people also expose themselves in the acts attempting to take advantage of this welcoming openness. I may be open with my emotions and feelings yet I do not allow myself to be manipulated. Sure I will go out of my way to help people but I will not allow that to inflict damage upon me in anyway.
If a friend is the person you feel connected to in some manner is it possible to have a digital friend? Do you need physical interaction to have a connection? How much can you know about someone in a digital world focused on portraying yourself as only but successful?
You will know the true friend as they will relate to your struggles not just your success. So can you have a digital friend? Yes! That friendship spans a different network of connections not hindered by the physical sense of the word. Comes with different acts of kindness and friendship.
Friends will do things for one another not asking for anything in return, not holding a tally. Speaking of Steemit specifically, who of you isn’t a friend? Pretty well even the spammers offer something if only an opportunity to educate them and others that may read the comments. I have had run ins with some big names and I lived to tell the tale so I am glad to call them friend.
Respect has a lot to do with friendship, I don’t expect anything other then a little respect. For what I try to do, my learning experiences, the fact I choose to share it. There is nothing but genuine emotion from a real life experience perspective coming from me, I have learned the hard way! Respect your bad apples. If nothing else you will learn what not to do!
Pretty well every individual who was taken the moment to interact with me I consider a friend. Some develop over time while others dwindle. Many of them start off with humble beginnings only to evolve into something unbelievable while others just go out with the bang they started with.
It’s those things we do for each other that makes all the difference!
