Steemit Tips: Power Up 100% or Default (50% / 50%) on Posts

Whats this? Power Up, Default 50/50, or Decline Payout on posts!? Lets break it down!

If you've created your first post you may have noticed the Rewards drop down in the bottom right. It looks like this:

It has three options and determines how you will be paid for any upvotes/$$$ that your post receives.

Which payout choice is best?

Power Up 100%

Power Up 100% means that when your post hits the 7 day mark, your payout reward for that one post will be paid to you in Steem Power. 100% of your earnings will be paid in Steem Power.

This is great if you are just starting out and wanting to try to grow your Steem Power (the largest factor determining what value your upvote has). Also the higher your upvote value is, the more curation rewards you will be able to get.

Default (50% / 50%)

Default 50/50 means that when your post hits the 7 day mark, your payout reward for that one post will be paid to you in 50% Steem Power AND 50% Steem Backed Dollars (SBD).

This is ideal if you wish to withdraw some earnings into an exchange, if you need some Steem/SBD to be able to purchase upvotes from bots, and there is one final situation you should choose this option.

If the price of Steem Backed Dollars is trading at well over $1.00 USD per SBD, then you will earn more by selecting 50% / 50%. You would have to be able to predict the future price of SBD and it would need to stay well above $1/SBD for the 7 days until your payout.

Decline Payout

This option declines the payout entirely. You will only see whales or staff selecting this option when they have an announcement or want to draw attention to a post but not receive any payout for it.

Whats best for you!

If you're reading this guide and are a new member of Steemit, you will most likely want to pick Power Up 100%. This option will roll your earnings into making your upvotes more valueable and get you more rewards from curating (upvoting other peoples posts).

If you do use upvote bots on your post, the Default 50% / 50% might be a good idea so you will be able to pay for bots out of your own earnings.

I hope this has cleared up the Rewards option on posts! A few final things to clarify.

How to tell what payout choice a steemian chose!

Power Up 100%

Posts with a 100% Power Up have this neat steem logo beside them:

Default 50% / 50%

Posts with the Default 50/50 will look normal. No steem logo, no strike through line.

Decline Payout

A post that has declined payout will look like this. Some new people mistake this for a post that has been banned. This only means they declined their payout.

I hope that cleared things up for you!
