Steemian of the Week!

Welcome to my first edition of Steemian of the Week!

justin

This week I have chosen @iamjustincscott to be my Steemian of the Week. Justin has been chosen based on the fact that he has written a number of articles in the subject area that I have been writing in, and am interested to learn more of. I might call it Personal Development, or Social Fluency. The former is a bit general and over-used, the latter is nice, but I really enjoy the term Social Currency,” that Justin uses in a recent post.

It's called your sociability. It allows you to develop connections, manifest ideas, and can give you access to an abundance of opportunity and options you wouldn't have otherwise. @iamjustincscott - Social Currency

As I see it, Social Currency is a set of skills that you bring to any interaction.

In part, it is:

  • Your ability to feel comfortable in a given situation, and project the same.
  • The level of interest you show in other people.
  • Your ability to read people and gauge any interaction through non-verbal cues.
  • Your willingness to be helpful.

It is your ability to make a connection with others.

  • Social Currency
  • Social Skills
  • Social Capital
  • Social Fluency
  • Emotional Intelligence(EQ).

These are all similar topics if not different ways to describe the same thing. This is going to be a major theme in my writing here. It’s all about interacting with others in a way that is enjoyable for everybody. These are learnable skills. We are not stuck with whatever social abilities we were born with, and Goddess Bless! The world at large will appreciate our efforts to better get along with each-other.

It’s nice to be born with the gift of gab.

Super, if you have a winning smile, and can talk with anyone.

The rest of us can learn to get along with ourselves and the world, in a better way.

Here are a few more posts from @iamjustincscott that I found helpful and related to what I've been working on lately:

EQ, or emotional intelligence, put simply, is ones ability to recognize and rationalize ones own emotions as well as the emotions of others. If you want to win over the favor of someone, you must first win over his or her emotions. This is why great men and women, past and present, are able to do the things they do; they have a fundamental understanding of their emotions and how they relate to and appeal to those around them. Emotional intelligence is by far the strongest force driving personal and interpersonal success. -@iamjustincscott

This is the article that first caught my attention and got me digging deeper into what Justin has to offer.

By learning what gestures to look for, we can teach ourselves to see how a person is really feeling, even if what they’re saying suggests otherwise. -@iamjustincscott

Here’s a few pictures where Justin expresses particular emotions for the camera. It's not a bad idea to practice expressing particular emotions. Both for properly recognizing emotions in each other, and also to ensure that we are expressing ourselves in a way that people can relate to. The ability to accurately recognize and express emotion is part of becoming Socially Fluent.

happiness

In a study done by the University of British Columbia, researchers found that regular aerobic exercise appears to increase the size of the hippocampus, the part of the brain that deals with verbal memory and learning.

This final post is about how working out is similar to meditation, and helps bring clarity of mind.

So.... I know at least a few people who follow me are interested in these topics, and it was exciting for me to find someone who has similar material.

Thanks for being my Steemian of the week @iamjustincscott!!!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing more from all of you, and excited to keep writing and working, myself.
