Song of Angels - Chapter 2

After leaving her office, Mindy spent several days driving to Utah, and then she spent several days making sales calls to her leads in Salt Lake City, Ogden, Logan, then down to Provo.
She was not doing too badly with her sales volume. Next on her list of leads to call was a very remote cement plant, far out in the west of Millard County. Her route took her from I-15 to Nephi where she turned west onto Utah Highway 132. She decided to fill up her jeep before heading south on Utah Highway 257.
As Mindy filled up the gas tank, she felt wonderful. Once she turned off the interstate, traffic had been sparse. The road was good and the scenery through the mountains was breathtaking. She had to pay attention to the road as she drove through the mountains because of the possibility of black ice but she never encountered any and the trip was so smooth she could not help gaze over the vast miles of empty desert highlands from the summit. What a view.
She reached Delta at one pm. It was now one-thirty. She decided to call ahead and make certain of her directions and that the person she was to meet would see her.
Her jeep filled, Mindy replaced the nozzle of the gas pump in its holder. My, it was a clear and wonderful day, she thought to herself. She pulled the jeep into a parking space in front of the convenience store, and then made her call.
Her appointment was verified with a Mr. Young and he would be happy to meet her and she verified the directions to the cement plant. She was not that far away, the secretary said, and should easily arrive at the plant before two-thirty pm. Mindy hung up the cell phone.
She decided to pick up a cup of coffee inside the convenience store before heading south on Utah Highway 257.
She started the jeep, pulled out of the gas station and zipped south on the highway. Only about thirty miles south from Delta, Mindy sped through little town of Deseret just south of Delta and entered the open desert. Largely flat and no traffic whatsoever, she opened up the jeep.
In twenty minutes, she turned left onto the dirt road and drove for eight miles and turned right onto another dirt road just like the directions said. She did not see the cement plant, but was told it would be five miles down the dirt road. All that was left was the left turn on another dirt road into the plant driveway.
Mindy drove her jeep five miles and saw nothing but sage, grass, and a few antelope. She decided to pull the jeep over because the road suddenly became not a dirt and gravel road but something like a wide path. She tried to call the plant but there was no service. And her jeep stalled. It would not restart. She stopped trying to start the vehicle before the battery was run down to dead.
Unfortunately for Mindy, unknown to her, the world had suddenly changed into a completely different place.
