Since I'm doing that witness thing, I suppose I should write one of these once in a blue moon.
I have recently moved my witness to an online service (I had been running it on a spare laptop that had been sitting around the house cough cough). Now I'm renting a node from https://privex.io which is a service that @someguy123 is involved in.
I think renting the server from @someguy123 is a pretty good idea, because he is a witness himself so he understands what a good witness needs, and also I can pay for the server using SBD which keeps the money in the family. How cool is that?
You should definitely vote for @someguy123 . He is a great witness and also runs Anonsteem, which is an awesome service and very important for Steem. @someguy123/anonsteem-create-anonymous-steem-accounts-without-social-media
Here are the specs on the new server:
Intel Xeon E3-1270V3 (4c/8t)
32GB DDR3 ECC RAM
1gbit/s network, capped at 20TB per month (plenty for a witness and most activities in general)
2x2TB Enterprise HDD's (generally either datacenter quality WD or Hitachi drives)
and located in Germany
