Three weeks after joining Steemit I had to go on a holiday to Nepal. Though the holiday had been booked much earlier, I decided I would make the most of my time in Nepal, and also hold a STEEMIT meet-up if possible. I contacted the only user from Nepal I found on steemit, @tshering-tamang, who seemed enthusiastic and we decided to go ahead. I also volunteered to take care of the costs involved.
On reaching Kathmandu, we met up and discussed how to proceed. It was finally decided that we include a short awareness seminar where we would try to explain Steemit.com and the technology behind it. We also decided we would get some T-shirts printed which we would then give to every participant who attended the meet-up.
We decided on Saturday the 13th of August, at the Nirvana Gardens Hotel in the Thamel area of the city, while @tshering-tamang started advertising on local Facebook groups and putting it out among his friends. We also put up banners in some places in the city and hoped we would have a good gathering.
The day came, and we were pleasantly surprised when around 30 people turned up for the event!
As decided, I gave a short presentation on the block-chain and crypto-currencies as best I could, and @tshering-tamang explained the workings of steemit.com website and the community.
But the Q/A session was the most engrossing. We were bombarded with questions, especially one's which were directed towards the creation of currencies, and we did our best to explain it, helped by the countless blogs we both had read on steemit which helped us understand in the first place.
We realized our efforts had paid off when three of the participants declared they had recently opened an account on steemit, and another five more told us they would go back home and instantly open an account!!
It was a great successful day and we had succeeded in creating a buzz ina country high up in the himalaya's, and which also has the highest mountain on earth, Mt Everest!
It was as if Steemit was on top of the world, literally!!
