When you see we have to sign in with steem connect, you might think it is safe to do that.
Wait! Just check out the url!
This is a phishing site that is trying to hack your steemit account.
You may see comment where it says you copy paste your content, you will get massive downvote for that. To protect your account from flagging, read the guideline clicking the link.
The moment you click the link, you see you are not logged in steemit any more.
Ok, it's not a big deal. Then you might sign in steemit again. Your account just hacked!
Honestly speaking, once I clicked the link and signed in steemit. As soon as I realized that something was wrong, it was wrong indeed.
Fortunately, nothing happened in my account. That time I signed in with my posting key. The best hackers could do is that spamming comment or post with my account, I think.
I changed my password immediately. And everything is fine.
So what can you do to secure your steemit account?
I think we should follow something strictly.
- Don't click the link you are not sure about it. Hackers try to do anything just to click the link.
- After clicking link, if it asks you to sign in again in spite of being logged in before, that's a sign that something is wrong. Check out the url that you're redirected to.
- Always use posting key to sign in steemit.
- Keep your master key or owner key somewhere safe.
- The last but not least, never ever use your master key or owner key to sign in. Use it only to change your password.
