So after spending 10 days on the platform and having seen the good, the bad and the ugly, I have some features in mind that I think will help make Steemit a better place. I am sure the developers must be working on all or some of these already but I still wanted to get it out there. So, these are the features I would like to see:
1. Follow Feature
This is the number one feature that I and a lot of other Steemers want to see. As Steemit grows, and we identify our favourite content creators, this will come in handy. Well, there already is a "follow" button but it does nothing right now, leading me to believe that the developers are at least thinking about it. This will help content creators gather up followers which will in turn inspire them to create even better content! And better content is always good for the platform.
2. Scheduled Posts
This is a big one. So, at the moment when you create a post and click on "Post" it immediately gets posted on Steemit. But, what if you want to post it at a particular time of the day. In that case, scheduled posts would come in handy. You just create a post and schedule it to be posted at a later time in the day. This of course will be useful for people outside the U.S. because the majority of users of Steemit are from U.S. and it is better for you as a poster if you post your posts at the peak hours. But a person, say in India, will be asleep at that time and hence he just can't post during the peak hours leading him to not getting enough upvotes.
3. Poll Features
This one would be really nice to have as well. Say you wanna get an opinion of the community regarding something. At the moment you just ask and they will comment in the comment sections. But if you could incorporate a poll in your post, you would have precise data.
This would also facilitate mass opinions to be more visible instead of all scattered up like it is now. Steemers vs Steemians, anyone??
4. A Steemit App
We all know and love our apps. We love our touchscreen devices AND Steemit. How about combining these two? We could steem on the go! We could touch Steemit with our fingers. It would provide a great user experience. Right now you have to go to your web browser on your mobile devices to do it but an app would be much faster, better, optimised and all around a better experience.
5. Native Uploading of Photos and Gifs
Right now we have to copy and paste the link of every photo that we want to include in our posts. But if the native uploading of photos and gifs is allowed for, it would save a lot of time for a lot of people, especially if a post is a long one!
6. Donate Button
This great feature was suggest by @osmodia in this post. If we could incorporate a donate button in the UI of Steemit, we could all donate a portion of what we make every month to a charitable trust. We could of course set the amount we want to donate and to whom we want to donate and till when we want to donate. This would be a really nice feature as the Steemit community could come together, pulling its resources and helping people in need OUTSIDE of Steemit. This would help in further community building.
7. “About Me” Page In Profile
We at Steemit, are primarily content creators. And if anyone decides to do this for the long run, they need to build their brand. And a good way of doing that is by making an "About Me" page that any user visiting your profile could see very easily. Yes, currently we have the introduceyourself posts, but as we pump out more and more content, that post will get more and more buried and a visiting user would have to spend a lot of time finding it.
8. More Items Under "Posts" Category
Right now, if you go to your "posts" category, you can see your last 20 posts/comments. But in my opinion this is not enough. We need to have at least 30. What if I wanted to keep tabs on a particularly good comment I made on someone's post? It could get buried in all the other comments I make. And then I would have to revisit the post and find my comment again.
9. Tip Button
A tip button could be incorporated in every post that a user posts (optional for the user). This would give an option to anyone reading the post to tip the poster if they really liked the post. Right now you can upvote the post but it may or may not result in earnings for the poster. But if there is a tip button, you could make sure that that happens! The whales and the dolphins could help create more whales and dolphins by doing this.
10. Better UI Elements
This is not actually a feature but a general enhancement of the UI elements and user experience, making the site look prettier and more intuitive to use.
