The Power Of Chrome Extensions

Google Chrome extensions are nothing more than small plugins or add-ons that are developed to create extra functionalities. By customizing your Chrome browser with the right extensions, you can increase your user experience significantly.

Chrome extensions can be downloaded from the Chrome Webstore, and are generally free. You can install new Chrome extensions from the Chrome Webstore in a single mouseclick, and it's just as easy to remove them again.

To remove an installed extension, simply type 'chrome://extensions/' in your browser's address bar and click Enter. This will open a window that lists all installed extensions. You can disable them by unchecking the checkbox, and delete them by clicking the little trashcan icon.

Below, you'll find my list of the best Chrome Extensions for SteemIt. These extensions will add different functionalities to SteemIt, and will make your SteemIt experience more user-friendly.

Please be aware that extensions can slow down your browser. That's why I advise you not to install more than just a couple. How many is up to you and depends on the number of other extensions you have installed in Chrome already.

The Best Chrome Extensions For SteemIt

1. SteemIt More Info

SteemIt More Info is my absolute favorite.
It is loaded with features that add a lot of extra, very useful information to the SteemIt website.
To be honest, I don't think I could do without it anymore.

Here's just a rundown of what I think are the features that bring in the most value. Please note these are not the only features, the list is way longer.

Vote Power Indicator

The extensions adds a 'vote power indicator' at the top of every profile page, which shows how much a user's upvote is worth at that point in time.

Vote $ Value In the Slider

When using the vote power slider, next to the percentage of the vote, you can also see the value in $ of this upvote percentage.

Upvote Values In $

For me personally, this is the most powerful feature that is added by the SteemIt More Info extension. Next to the list of names of people who have upvoted your post, you'll be able to see how much their upvote was worth.

More functionalities:

  • Search on steemit directly in the navigation bar
  • Mentions tab
  • Number of votes is visible on any profile page
  • 'Votes' tab on every profile page
  • Open a gallery of images in a post by clicking on an image.
  • Dropdown menu with links to external tools
  • Shows total reward of the post after your downvote
  • 2 different layout options to view post list
  • GIF Picker for your posts and comments
  • Floating bar with tags, date, author and upvotes
  • Markdown editor shows the preview at the right side of the editor.
  • Histogram of the posts showing on every user's profile page
  • Extended features on the followers and following pages
  • Boost button
  • Steemit More Info-settings can be easily changed
  • Ability to filter wallet history

As you can see, this is a very powerful extension and I think everyone should have this installed by default.

2. SteemPlus

Steemplus doesn't offer as many addons as SteemIt MoreInfo (no other extension does), but its still adds a couple of very useful tools to the SteemIt website.

Voting Slider For Minnows

Without using extra extensions, a minnow has to acquire 500SP before he gets a voting slider. Those days are over thanks to SteemPlus.

Providing a voting weight slider for everyone is one of the things that makes SteemPlus an extension you simply need to have.

Delegation Button inside Your Wallet

This extensions adds a delegation button right inside your wallet to make delegating and undelegating Steem Power easier than ever.

More Features Of SteemPlus:

  • True value of your account on your wallet (calculated with current SBD and STEEM market prices)
  • Feed+ : Filter your feed by tags, resteems, reputation and sort it by upvotes/date/payout
  • Option to add beneficiaries to your post
  • Badges are added to user's profile pages to show their rank
  • Direct transfer to users

I assume you can see the value of an extension like SteemPlus, and in how many ways it can improve your user experience on SteemIt. The extension is also available for Firefox.

The following extensions only have a limited number of features. Still, it can pay off to have them installed.

3. Steem Toolbar

This nifty little extension adds a powerful toolbar at the top of your SteemIt pages. You can use the options menu to select the information you want to have displayed in the toolbar.

SteemToolbar Options

From within the options menu, you can indicate whether you want to show the following information in your toolbar:

  • your Voting Power
  • average STEEM price on markets (+ price evolution)
  • average SBD price on markets (+ price evolution)
  • exchange currency
  • price refresh interval
    and more...

4. Steemit Platform Switcher

This extension doesn't have loads of bells and whistles, but the only feature it has, is very useful.

SteemIt Switcher allows you to quickly switch between Steemit, ChainBB, SteemD and SteemDB.

5. Steem.ly Link Shortener

This also is an extension with only one feature, but I find myself using it all the time. It's a simple tool to shorten an URL with a single click. When you click on the extension button while you're on a SteemIt page, the URL of the page will be shortened and copied to the clipboard on autopilot.
Very useful if you want to share interesting articles on other social media.

More Extensions

There are many more Chrome extensions that can make life on SteemIt a little easier. I assume that when it comes to usefulness of a feature, every Steemian will have his own needs.
You can check out the entire collection in the Chrome webstore and try out all extensions to discover which one suits you best.
