@sndbox toolkit posts are designed to help cryptocurrency newcomers get acquainted with the ins and outs of Steemit and the blockchain ecosystem. If you have requests on components or systems related to Steemit that you would like to see explained, please let us know in the comments below.

Misc. Tools and Tips

If you are familiar with our Toolkit posts, we strive to offer easy-to-understand guides to navigate the complex aspects, interface, and terminology inherent in a blockchain social-media platform. Individual posts also make it easier to share on other social-media platforms and ease potential users into the platform.

But as we at @sndbox explore all the nooks and crannies of Steemit, there are numerous tidbits that don’t substantiate entire posts yet are valuable to articulate. Since most of our Toolkit posts are designed to show how to do something on Steemit, today’s post will be a running list of what NOT to do on Steemit. Steemit is all about experimentation, but there are definitely some things you should avoid or approach carefully that may be not so clear for new users.

Be sure to add any suggestions of what we can put on this list - things that you’ve had trouble with, found initially confusing, or still don’t make sense. We’ll consider and add them for future updates.

TIPS : what NOT to do on Steemit

170922_Icons-04.pngDo NOT share your password/account key anywhere in the interface. Don’t send it to anyone. Keep it safe and treat it carefully as you would any password.
170922_Icons-03.pngDo NOT Resteem a post that you may want to remove in the future. The resteem function on Steemit does not yet allow you to un-resteem and thus shares will be permanent on your account wall.
170922_Icons-06.pngDo NOT post anything you may want to edit out in the future. You can edit a blog post up to 7 days after posting. After that, the content is locked in and cannot be changed. Also, all edits are searchable within the blockchain (even though they might not be visible in the Steemit interface.)
170922_Icons-05.pngDo NOT add irrelevant tags to your post. Be honest about what you are posting and don’t add hashtag-photography if there are no self-taken photos or hashtag-cn if it doesn’t contain the chinese language or pertain to chinese culture. Tags in Steemit are primarily used for searching and community-building.
170922_Icons-07.pngDo NOT copy text or photos without linked sources. Plagiarism is a big no-no on the blockchain. Be sure to only use content that you have been given permission to use, created yourself, or properly referenced if it is Creative Commons content.
170922_Icons-08.pngDo NOT flag a post or comment unless you are willing to invest yourself (literally) in that downvote. Flagging on Steemit works similarly to upvoting, using up part of your rewards pool to penalize the comment or post.

This list is meant to be serve as a quick reminder for new users who are still learning the ins and outs of Steemit. We may even transform some of the points into full-length posts to explain why a function works a certain way. Again, if you have suggestion for more points, edits to existing ones, or topics you’d like explained in future Toolkit posts, be sure to comment below!
