Now, I love Steem. It's great. It makes the time I spend on the internet feel worth something. It's a social experiment in so many ways. By tethering monetary reward to your online reputation, it seems to make everybody sit up straight and stop trolling so damn much.

I'm deeply intrigued to witness the evolution of a community built on a common currency. That's something every Steemer has in common: a shared responsibility to uphold and promote the value of the system. It is a common goal to unite and encourage us to create. That's a powerful thing.

Which brings me to my observation...

The way influence is ranked, recorded, and weighted is very reminiscent of S05E08 of Community in which there's an app called-- well, I'll just let them tell you...

If you've seen the episode, **spoiler alert** you know the 5's go mad with power and they slip into a dystopian nightmare. Let's watch out for that, eh?
