Parley

A place where conversations happen.

https://www.parley.io/

Here's the plug you will see, if you run across a Parley created post...

What is Parley?
Parley is a Steem-based Reddit competitor that allows users to submit links and curate news they find around the web in order to promote discussion on the Steem platform. Read more

This is a pretty cool idea that has a lot of potential.

  • It is a work in progress, but is usable as is.

You can scroll the communities on the right side of the site.

What I found experimenting

Parley automatically creates a graphic of the web site you link to.

  • This shows up on Steemit Feeds on your Steemit Post.
    • It doesn't show up on the Parley site.
I kind of wish it would.

When surfing from Steemit.com:

  • You click the thumbnail in your feed, which brings you to the post.
    • Then you have to click the view on Parley to see a link to the actual article.
      • Then you have to use the back button to make any comments.
    • Or you can Right-Click the link and open in a new tab or window
      • Then swap between the two, if you want to comment while reading.

I tried to post a link to a contest which was on Facebook.
I used the tag contest.

The next link worked great.

Parley evidently doesn't recognize markdown yet.

  • First I made a comment using markdown, and the actual markdown showed up after adding the comment.
    • I looked on Steemit and yes, the comment was showing the markdown code.
      • I reformatted the comment while viewing it on Steemit. It formats properly on Steemit now, but not Parley...

Using Parley might keep Cheetah off your back

Let's say you want to discuss an article you find out on the Internet.

  • You could make a standard post and quote some from the article adding your views.
    • NOTE: You still run the risk of Cheetah finding similar content.

Or you could use Parley
Link to the article and make your "post" as the first comment.

  • Voila! Cheetah won't bug you...

Ideas I would like to see

Understand this is a work in progress!

  • It would be nice to have a search function, for content, communities, etc.
    • Perhaps even all posts from a certain web site would be handy.
      • I wonder if 2 people can post the same article? It might be best if links couldn't be duplicated.
  • Support markdown!
    • Preview would be nice.
  • It would be nice to have a link to the article showup when viewing on Steemit.
    • It would be nice to see the site preview pic when viewing on Parley.

Conclusion

The big idea is that a discussion about an existing article on any web site, is more important than creating a post about information similar to what you can find on an existing article.

  • This will likely be a very popular option for Steemit users who are better idea men, than content creators.
    • I think it is a great idea. I plan on using it maybe once a week or more.
I enjoy creating posts, so that will still be my mainstay.
