Hi there!

So you've made an account. Good going, you!
Now you're ready to start exploring the world of THE BEST crypto-currency out there:
(totally not trying to flatter @ned at all.
PS: CEO of Steemit.)

Steemit!

"But where do I start?"

You think.

"Ah yes, there must be something in the Welcome tab."

You say, and click it.

"What's this?"

You wonder, as you check out Helpful Posts from Steemit Users.

"This is fantastic! I think I should learn how to build my followers first."

You decide, as you go through each and every post that has the tiniest trace and mention of how to increase your followers' count.

And then...

After much reading (and little comprehension), you arrive at the following golden conclusion:

Spoiler Alert: Bad Idea

Armed with this timeless piece of knowledge, you set out on your journey:

To build followers by commenting on every single post that you find.

First, you attack the Trending page.
Then, the Hot section.
After conquering that, you set out for the New posts.
(You don't go to Promoted because, who does?)

Until...

You have a comment-folio that looks like this:

At this point, you'd be considered lucky if your reputation score isn't in the negatives.

You Find That...

Instead of having:
👍 Pure and Genuine Followers
(who would read all of your posts, upvote and sometimes resteem them.)

You end up having:
👎Artificial and Fake Followers
(who neither read your posts nor upvote them. Forget the resteem.)

So, what have we learnt? We've learnt...

How NOT To 🎌 How To Comment

#Mistakes ✖Corrections ✔
1.Insignificant Comments

As you saw in the comment-folio above, just saying "good post" isn't going to bring joy to the author, because they know you don't mean it. Don't do that.
Meaningful Comments

Ask yourself what do you feel/ think/experience/relate when you read the post and only then comment what you truly want to say.
2.Too Many/Much Less Comments

You don't always have to comment something in posts. So instead of commenting for commenting sake, just upvote the post and move on. Too many unnecessary comments and people will start ignoring you. Less comments and you won't be seen by others.
Balance

Just like above, only when the post has brought out some sort of response from you, made you feel a certain way, only then comment. Following this, you'll always post comments just the right amount because you do have something to say.
3.Not Commenting At All

What are you doing? You're missing out on all the fun! The party's always in the comment section. Don't just log on, upvote, resteem and close the browser. You won't get the full experience of this platform then. You'll miss out on so many friendships, conversations, banter and opportunities!
Start Commenting

Do try to voice your opinions when you have them, there's nothing to worry about. This place isn't like those other bad places that are filled with trolls and mean people in the comment section (psst YouTube). People here care about what you have to say, heck, they'll even give you money through upvotes for it! You might as well post your first comment on this post. ;)

Conclusion Time!

All that being said, do read those amazing posts in the Welcome tab that teach you about how to gain followers. There are many great and useful tips in them for you to find which will help you in your long-term stay at our Steemit community.
This is an amazing platform and trust me, you're going to love it here! :)

Thank you for reading!
