A mixed bag of emotions this week – on the one hand I'm sorry that @engishtchrivy has decided to relinquish her role as host of the Steemit Culinary Challenge, and on the other hand I'm delighted to be taking over as the new host! Hello, and also - welcome !!!
I have to emphasise my gratitude to @englishtchrivy – firstly for inviting me to join the challenge all those months ago when I was a newbie, then continuing to cheer me on all the way, and now for giving me the honour of hosting. I'm not always the most confident of people, and so to have encouragement and the hand of friendship like this makes a massive difference to my life, really. It feels strange in a way knowing I'll no longer be deliberating over recipes to enter, but all things change and as the very wise Rumi said “Those who don't want to change, let them sleep”. So I embrace this change wide awake!!!
Those of you who regularly participate in this weekly challenge will surely know how much I've enjoyed partaking myself, and doing my best to come up with unique recipes! As I've mentioned before I live in remote rural Ireland, and it has come to mean a great deal to me being part of this little SCC-community. I've looked forward to finding out the new themes and getting creative, and then chatting with other participants or supporters about food, each-other's diets, and un-related things too. It's inspired me to try all sorts of new ingredients and combinations, and inevitably deepened my knowledge of nutritional qualities and how people's bodies respond to the food they eat. I have made several friends along the way and that wouldn't have happened without the Steemit Culinary Challenge.
But perhaps the universe is now giving me a new challenge, as I've entered 12 times and won 12 prizes, and so it seems the time has come for something different. I'll definitely miss being a participant – not for the prizes, but for the fun of creating things I wouldn't otherwise have created (or eaten), and seeing the assortment of recipes from everyone else. Everyone who enters seems to do so in good spirits, and it actually feels more like a dinner party than a competition! So cheers to all of you – a thousand thanks for your support, enthusiasm, comments, and for being so bloomin' lovely!!! Slainte!!!
My intention as the new host is to continue this challenge much the same as @englishtchrivy – the sponsors and prizes remain as they were, and of course there will be a guest judge every week as usual. There is a slight difference in the submission deadline (please see below) but other than that we carry on as we have. Our mission? To create the most extraordinary recipes this planet has ever seen!!! (Now there's an idea - a dish for an alien visitor...)
Now, down to business. I'd like to firstly congratulate all the "Pancake Paradise" winners of last week, which were announced by @englishtchrivy in her final post here. They were great entries and we hope to see all of you return each week to submit more of your wonderful recipes! Everyone is welcome - you don't have to be a master chef to enter, all we ask is that you try to be as creative as you can.
I'd also like to share my sincere THANKS to all the sponsors, the Steemians who submitted entries, and to everyone who upvoted and supported the entries. I'm well aware there would be no challenge without you all!!!
This week's guest judge for the Steemit Culinary Challenge #21 is non other than @knozaki2015, former sponsor of the SCC, full-time Steemit blogger, world-traveler, and a real food enthusiast. He must see all kinds of exciting recipes on his travels, so the pressure's on to impress him guys!!! The theme he has chosen for this week is:
(Yep, just to mix things up we've got a bit of English, a bit of French and a bit of Italian there. Craaaazy). Obviously we're not looking for any of those coffee variations we know and love, such as latte macchiato, cappuccinos, mochaccino, etc, but instead we want you to be creative with your coffees... to surprise us with weird combinations... to be inventive and present to us the most beautiful coffees we've ever seen. Just click on all these blued words for examples of unusual coffees if you're stuck for ideas.
Presentation is very important - remember that unfortunately @knozaki2015 can't really taste your coffee so you must help him taste it with his imagination!
