Hey everyone!
This is my entry for the Doodle Contest Week #2 hosted by @coloringiship based on theme of funny characters. I had a pretty good Monday, and knowing that tomorrow I don't really have to prepare any lesson because I am taking my students for a friendly soccer match somewhere at Lat Phrao district, Thailand, so I decided to do something fun and creative tonight.

My big ideas and inspirations

  1. Monsters
  2. One eye
  3. Funny
  4. Simple
  5. Colourful
  6. Community/Friendship
  7. Expressions

My materials/medium

  1. MÅLA coloured pencils from IKEA
  2. Black Sharpie marker pens
  3. Pencil (2B) Faber-Castell
  4. Eraser
  5. Mini whiteboard markers from Daiso Japan
  6. Art block (A3)
  7. My brain juice :D

The process

I knew I wanted more than just plain monsters, so I decided to do little alphabetical monsters using my Steemit name! H-E-A-R-T-S-C-A-L-L-Y. To add a little zest of friendship/community vibes, I assigned each alphabet to another Steemit blogger! Aha, could it be you? Maybe yes, maybe no. But there was one thing that affected my choice for every selected Steemit blogger... I must know some essence of their character, personality, and interests. Otherwise, I wouldn't know what and how to draw their monster figure. As the "doodle artist" in this situation, that will heighten my big ideas and inspirations before I monster-ize them. Hahahaa!

I started off with some rough sketches to make sure that I have enough space to go big, and crazy with my funny characters, based on my Steemit name. For the next 10 minutes, I had to check my colouring materials just to have a quick glimpse into possible variations of colours. In some ways, it helped me to plan my drawing for each alphabet.

Next, I took some time to plan the main colours of each alphabet so that it won't be too warm or cool on any side of the space. I also planned some pop-ups of colours to give it some character to the funny characters, or monsters. Furthermore, I added some tiny details, and corrected some lines and shapes. Like I have emphasized above in my big ideas and inspirations, I drew a lot of one-eye monsters! So, looking at my sketches above, would you be able to guess who are the Steemit bloggers that I have monster-ized today in my doodles? :D

The big reveal

IMG_0053.JPG

Alphabet H goes to @happycrazycon! I added flowers to her monster because I am pretty confident that she loves flowers. She loves wearing flowery tops, dresses and skirts too! In fact, she herself is one beautiful flower!

Alphabet E goes to @deborism! She's truly rocking her girl-power. Though we have not known each other for too long, but her lovely, quirky character glued everything together. I added some reindeer antlers because being with her feels like Christmas; just so much joy and adventure! And of course, that tiny cup of coffee.

IMG_0054.JPG

Alphabet A goes to @maverickfoo! I think this monster is pretty obvious. Short pants, with glasses and the expression of presenting or explaining something. Sorry Mav, I punched your front tooth in my doodle. Maverick does a lot (like super a lot) of Steemit bootcamps, workshops and presentations in different places. Click here to check out his next event!

Of course, alphabet R goes to @zord189! I was so eager to add those muscles since now he is on his #fatsbegone gym routine. HAHAHAHA! Then, I added those sharp green thorns, simply because he loves eating durians! There is a slight hint of yellow to show the flesh of the durians.

IMG_0055.JPG

Alphabet T goes to @howtostartablog! I am very sure that he is a foodie just like me! That explains why I added the fork and spoon for his monster. I have not met him in person, but by looking at some pictures, I can perceive that he is tall. So, I extended his eye to reflect his monster height here.

Alphabet S goes to @scottjeromeyao! A little black bow for his monster, because he is musician at heart, and he performs almost every night! I added six lines on his monster "tail" to show the guitar strings, and some music notes. Oh gosh, I hope I doodled it right.

Then comes @calebleejl with his keyboard accompaniment! A pair of black, squarish glasses for his monster and a whole lot of expressions here. Not forgetting the two tiny legs, so that he can step on the pedals. HAHAHAA!

Alphabet A goes to @danielwong! I made it simple and straightforward for his monster. A chef hat and a burger! He's one proud owner of Big Hug Burger restaurant with his counterparts. And this restaurant accepts STEEM as your payment! In fact, it has grown to be a famous Steemit meet-up hub for #teammalaysia.

The first alphabet L goes to @iamjadeline. Her monster resonates so much love and delight, don't you think so? One amazing person, truly blessed. I added a pair of pink wings because she always spread a great deal of exuberance and love wherever she goes. I also added lots of tiny legs because number 1, it looks adorable on her monster and number 2, she travels a lot in and out of the hospital, and many other places because of her CDH son. Hugs!

The second alphabet L goes to @michelleloh168! Aha, a fancy party hat for her monster! A super cheerful, loving person and someone who has an outstanding talent in music. Her voice carries weight, this I know. :)

Last but not least, alphabet Y goes to @jaynie! She is the queen of #steemitbloggers. I am always entertained with the messages in the general chat room on our Discord channel. She roams around within her kingdom and on some days, she will give gentle spanks aka reminders for our community. Hail to the queen!
