Aloha Steemers!
Yesterday, I stumbled upon this ad on FB and it took me to this amazing site called GuruShots! And so far, I love it!
This semester as University of Hawai'i I'm enrolled in the introductory to Photography course. I have always had a burning desire to become a photographer. But to the dark doubts of the subconscious mind, up until this point I had always dismissed the desire as a mere interest that needed no further attention. It was something my parents and my past boyfriends showed little support for, as it wasn't a career that promised 'security' or 'growth'. As time carved away at my social conditioning, I am now rebirthing, coming into a fresher, raw and more authentic version of myself. This year, I'm owning and allowing all my deepest desires to come to fruitition, to at least have the benefit of being watered and tended to with an open mind.
I have never felt more joy than I am consitently experiencing now, not joy from achieving or being recognized as a great someone - but pure joy in being able to find freedom in being in love with my own dreams and goals without apology. So to continue this journey with excitement and enthusiasm to grow my art, I have been hungry for challenges outside of my school parameters.
There are a variety of open challenges that also have some cash incentives for the winners! But overall what really drawed me into this platform was that voting was anonymous and there are thousands of fellow photographers who want to just share and explore the art with a focus on the images. There are so many social media platforms out in the web right now, finding a niche pocket in the web can be relieving for the eyes and mind.
I've posted a couple submissions in the introductory challenges such as: the Solo, Summer Fun, Candid Animals, and Introduction challenges. Others can vote for your image easily and effortlessly. It's been such a refreshing way to share multiple images without having to fuss around with extensive words and backstories.
Here are some of my photo submissions:
This shot is an an aspect ratio that I don't see too much of these days. I took while on my volunteer HONU Watch in Paia, Maui. The Honu are the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle. I found this little girl with the tutu on the rock quite amusing, and I loved the pinks of her tutu against the ocean and the slowly setting sun.
Now this magestic creature, is my best friend and adventurist companion Hoku. We are in I'ao State Park in Wailuku, Maui. I love the vibrant and green wet forests of Wailuku. This place is not only a ecological preserve, but also a spiritual and historical landmark.
Lastly, this is a shot I took of my boyfriend waxing his surfboard before an early Sunday morning surf session. I found his locks playful and the vantage point to be interesting.
I know there are a multitude of photographers on Steemit so far and I have enjoyed browsing through the hot and trending posts of the work shared here. So I thought this would be a great additional stream for those art-hungry artists out there looking for ways to stay on your toes, seek out new photographers to be inspired by, or get your images out there - consider signing up with GuruShots! I'll follow you :) My username is the same as it is for this platform.
And with that, I'm out.
