The last days of the Second World War in Europe were not far from here. The remnants of the German army, which were on the run, attempted to reach Bavaria via the Ore Mountains. During the retreat the troops were accompanied by the remains of the 10th SS Panzer Division "Frundsberg", which had always been hindered by air raids on the part of Allied troops. Much of the tanks and trucks were left behind due to lack of fuel in the village of Bärenstein in the Müglitztal. Here in the area there are still many soldiers graves, some of the victims still staring after the surrender of Germany in May 1945. None of these sacrifices should ever be forgotten, none of the people who sacrificed this war, whether Russians, Poles, Jews or Germans, or from whatever country. Every victim of a war is a victim too much.
