Steemmonster Fairy Tale: A tale about the sea

Alric Stormbringer was living in a cave near the sea. Everyone knew his might and he was feared by many, but for the people living close to the sea shore he was a protector. Keeping them safe just by being present. Even though he wasn't what one might call amiable, he enjoyed the the occasional encounters with the children of the nearby villages. More often than not he was in the mood for a little storytelling when the children gathered around him.

One day he was asked by one of the children to tell them a story about the sea. Dreamily looking towards the shore he began telling his story in a deep, melodic voice.

" When the earth was still without water it was the stone that sullenly flowed in sluggish rivers and formed bubbling seas. The stone wasn't really enjoying moving at all, it was the earth itself that made it wallop and never let it rest.
The earth was oh so small and wanted to impress the sun, the ruler of the universe, with its mighty fires and red glowing stones! But the sun didn't care at all, she was busy to shine and loved nothing more than the twinkle of the stars that reflected her precious light.

Once the earth realized that it couldn't keep up with her it asked the moon, that stood in friendly relations with the sun, what it could do to please her. "Just be like me " the moon replied, " be like a huge mirror and send her children, the rays of the sun, back to her."

Whereas the earth let the stone come to a rest. The stone happily obliged and swore to itself to not move an inch as long as the earth let it be. Without the fire spitting mountains and the red flowing rivers the earth suddenly became dark. The sun turned away from this place that didn't send back her childen anymore and the moon circled anxiously around the sad planet.

By the time the earth realized that it couldn't mirror by itself like the moon, but rather saw that its own ashes even took its sight of the sun, it started crying bitter tears.
It cried so loud that the stones fled to the sky and formed mountains and chasms. Its tears mixed with the ashes and formed the land and the sea. Nothing could stop its tears and the cold build up layers and layers of ice.
Erelong the earth was covered completely with ice and its tears found no way through. It fell into a deep, utterly exhausted sleep.

It didn't notice how delighted the sun was about this jewel like planet that send her rays into the deepest darkness of the universe and made those stars far away twinkle. In her joy she send so many of her children that they soon melted the layers of ice and made enormous oceans rise.

Jealous now, the moon came closer to the earth and tried to drive the sea away. Gently, so no one would notice. Soon the stones emerged that had escaped the wailes of the earth, these were the mountains and after that appeared the land, formed by the ashes.

Now the rays of the sun started to tickle the earth and it awoke. Beaming with joy it felt the warmth of the sun and saw the twinkle of the sea. But how wondrous! Completely by itself moved the water, sometimes for miles, away. Only then the earth noticed the moon who still tried to shoo the sea away. To prevent the water from disappearing it created plants, trees and clouds to hold it and send it back to earth.

Until today the moon and the earth rival for the attention of the sun and wherever the moon goes on its circle around the world it draws the water away. Thats why the sea moves in blistering waves, in low tide and high."

With grinning eyes he finished his story and send the children back home. But the slight grin in his face was soon replaced with worry. He sensed a storm coming and there was a lot of work waiting for him...

The End.
