Project Alinaga: some highlights on last Saturday's "Isang araw na yakap, gamit ang sining at musika!"

A special day for our special kids

Translated to "A day full of hugs, using Music and Arts", last Saturday was just that. Together with their parents and their teachers, from their beaming faces, their hearts were full of JOY and gladness. We at #steemPH and all of our volunteers can only hope to bring them more of these, as much as we can in the future.

Music for anyone is very therapeutic, it works just the same for these kids. For them, it is effective in releasing their emotions where usually the problem they have is they get so frustrated when unable to express themselves or misunderstood. Although some of the kids were quiet and were not participating, most of them were hyperactive and can be worrying for the volunteers but reassured by the special education teachers.

According to Marlon aka @flabbergast-art, they don't get tired and can last the whole day!

Music therapy

After all the introductions, the kids were divided into 2 groups and all instruments were shared, guided by the Alinaga members. The most favourite instrument was the Djembe, an African drums.

Arts therapy

The kids already knew what to draw so the volunteers were not hard-up, just giving assistance with the materials or taking the kids to use the toilet. Seemed easy enough for our future volunteers whenever we will have another one. So watch this space! We are quite definite that there will be more as @flabbergast-art was asked immediately for another follow-up.

To these.

Lunch!!!

Apparently, there is a technique to control these awesome kids. With the help of the teachers, they were made to sit on the floor quietly. Packed lunch were distributed without utensils and take note, no one was eating! Only when they have their spoons and forks did they all start to eat. Quite different from what we're used to but,  it worked and they were all well behaved.

Perhaps Tribong Alinaga playing in the background during lunch provided the magic touch?

A big Thank you to our couple @steemitph and @dandalion together with their two daughters for their presence and help to this event. Pitching Steemit to the parents, volunteers and teachers was fun we have hoped! It was nice to see the whole family helping and enjoying themselves! We know, we saw the pictures!
