Steps to perform the grafts on the plants

Hello Steemians friends, this time I want to teach you how to make grafts on plants; but before beginning it is necessary to explain: What is a graft? A graft is a method of artificial vegetative propagation, this technique involves taking a part of the tissue of a plant (yolk), to insert it into another mother plant called (Pattern); so that this small vegetable piece can grow and develop. Generally buds or buds that arise from the axils of the plants are used, they are carefully extracted from a plant that we are interested in reproducing; The grafts are made between plants of the same family, and can be between fruit or ornamental plants. This is a very simple method, but it is necessary to take into account some practices so that the graft is a success.

What plants can be grafted?

The plants that can be grafted are all those that belong to the same family or gender, if the grafts are made of plants from different families, the plant (pattern) will reject the graft. Among the group of plants we can mention: Grafting between avocado plants; grafts between ornamental plants of flowers with thorns; grafting between ornamental plants without thorns; Among the fruit plants you can make grafts among citrus fruits such as: sweet lemon, sour lemon, oranges and tangerines, among others. The important thing is that they belong to the same family.

What are the grafts performed for?

This mechanism is made to take advantage of the qualities of a graft to combine it with another plant called pattern that is already established, this plant will be the support of the graft. Through the grafts, excellent yields are obtained with respect to the fruit. And in the case of ornamental plants such as flowers and roses for our garden, we can obtain a variety of flowers of different colors on the same plant or improve the tonalities of flowers and size.

Materials:

  • Exact paper cutter

  • Fabric or adhesive tape

Procedure to perform the grafts on the plants

The shoots that we are going to graft must be of a plant whose fruits are of good quality. In the case of ornamental plants, choose the ones that best satisfy your personal tastes. In this case, I will work with ornamental plants of flowers of smooth stems, one of them has light pink flowers and another plant of the same family, with fuchsia flowers, as you can see in the images. x237792005_10214202695953590_5265582149154635776_n.jpg

Process:

  • Select the buds for the graft, of a size between 3 and 10 millimeters in length.
  • Cut the yolks with the blade, making sure that the cut is flush with the part of the bark and the cambium. x637707741_10214202840957215_7014503711237996544_n.jpg
  • When making the cut, be careful not to mistreat the buds, which we are going to graft.
  • After extracting the bud from the graft, we proceed to make the cut in the plant or pattern. We can make the cut in the form of (T), they can also do it in the form of a cross, (+); the important thing is that the graft is tight and well protected by the cortex.
  • Here you can see a cut in the shape of (T), this cut is made with the leaf, trying to cut the bark of the stem, towards the woody part.

  • Carefully lift the bark of the stem, to insert the graft.

  • We place the graft and cover it with the same bark of the stem, we tighten it a bit with our hands

  • The next step will be to place the adhesive tape or the fabric around the graft, as shown in the following image:

  • The following steps consist of keeping the plant (pattern) hydrated, this should be watered in the morning and in the afternoon.
  • When the graft begins to grow and reaches three times the initial size, the band is removed. (7 days)
I recommend making the grafts with the crescent moon, because it is the period in which the plant has the sap between its branches.

Greetings and I hope this information is very useful for everyone.
