Hi everyone in the #ssg! I was curious if any of you collected the $20 for $20 silver from the RCM and if so, what types do you collect?
I bought a few of these 2016 Star Trek $20 silver coins, when they were first released. I picked them up from profits made else where, plus a good USD to Canadian exchange rate, so it didn't feel like I was spending "real money" haha.
They are not too big 7.96 grams, but really are full of detail! They are struck in .9999 fine silver and come attached to a fancy photo card with the specs.
I was a big fan of Captain James T. Kirk, Spock, Bones, and the Enterprise in the 70s, but just haven't really tried to get into any of the newer versions of the films. I guess I'm just old school.
I remember a ton of evenings, gathered around the television with the family....glued to our seats because "Star Trek Was On...". It was the perfect excuse to do chores later, or wait a little while to do your homework.
Back then, there was no recording tv shows to watch later, or Netflix, or YouTube.. ...if you wanted to watch it, you better have your ass on the couch and that antenna turned the right direction ahead of time. Those who failed to plan, had to hear about what happened second-hand from your buddies at school the next day.
As terrifying as that sounds....to not have instant access to every show known to man at your fingertips, don't you think that it taught people to plan a little better? To make a schedule? To have consequences for not preparing ahead to watch your favorite show?
There are times when I wish for those simpler days. When an antenna was required. Where remotes were not available, and you had to get up to change the channel (and a vote was required, to decide what would be watched on that ONE television).
Basically, back when people were perfectly content with less...and happy to have it.
My Monday evening, old school TV rant. "Brought to you by the Royal Canadian Mint, manufacturers of fine 1970's memories....struck in brilliant .9999 silver. You can find them wherever fine silver coins are sold."

Thanks for reading this far. If anyone is just dying to add this piece to their collection, give me a yell and we can probably work something out.
Please upvote, Resteem, follow and don't be the guy that goes out of turn, at a 4 way stop, thanks.
