It's time to get art and submissions for the 2018 Steem Silver Round, the contest is now Live!

We're looking designs to be used on the reverse (front/tails) side of the 2018 Steem Silver Round.

A quick reminder if your not familiar with this project, but this is a physical 1 oz fine silver round (coin) that will be created and struck using the art that is submitted. Last year 1500 were made and they sold within a few weeks and remain very popular.

We are going to do the same as last year and run it as a design contest that anyone can submit art for it will run for 2 weeks and hopefully that will give everyone a chance to get something together. After the submissions we'll put them all together into a voting round and the most popular design will be chosen to be struck on the 2018 version of the Steem Silver Round.

Just ask @bearone how cool it is having your art immortalized on a silver round

Her amazing community design was the winner last year. It really helps to provide a little back ground or info regarding the meaning and reason for your design, similar to what she submitted last year.

For me Steemit is all about Community. Whether it's the Steemit community as a whole or the many groups/communities that are forming within Steemit, or what Steemit can do for the World Wide community - When I think of Steemit I think of Community in all those terms and more.

I wanted to represent "community" with the fish swimming together and community written in Latin, French, English and Tagalog (Filipino).

In this design you can see the growth progression from Minnow to Dolphin to Whale. I also like how the small fish are swimming with the big fish. It's a bit more of an accurate representation of the Steemit Eco-System.

I heard sea/marine life references in Steemit will eventually disappear, I'm not sure if that is true, but I felt if it was (or even if it wasn't), it's important to mark this moment in our Steemit history where we refer to ourselves as Minnows, Dolphins and Whales.

?

Like how awesome is that!

I'm sure we're going to see some amazing submissions this year, once again anyone can submit a design and the deadline for submission is Feb 7th, 2018. After that we will do a community vote post to determine the winner.

Art can be submitted in any format, black and white/colour, digital or a painting/drawsing/sketch or any type of original art. The sculptor in the past has had problems converting and viewing vector images so it may need to be converted to another file type in the end. Otherwise file format, size and pixels shouldn't be a problem, there may be minor edits required based on technical limitations, especially if any text is used the letters should not be bold or thick.

The art will then be sculpted on to a plaster mold for use in a coin die. The process of coin die creation is explained HERE and HERE, if you want to learn more about what will happen next.

You can post your designs in the comments, but I think a full post would do it better justice, and lets start the tag #Steemsilverround to try to keep everything together.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask in the comments and we'll get you an answer.

A few submissions from last year.

Contest and Prizes

Of course the grand prize is having your art on the coin, but we are also giving Steem Prizes as well.

We will guarantee a First place prize of 30STEEM, second place of 15STEEM and 3rd place of 5STEEM. We do hope to be able to offer additional prizes and that will depend on post payouts and any donations received.

We are hoping to crowdfund part of the coin project to ensure we can offer the best prices on the final product as well the best prizes for the art submissions. All donations can be sent @steemsilverround. All post payouts from any steem silver round posts created by @phelimint and @sevinwilson will be donated and anyone can feel free to commit to the same.

More details about the project can be found HERE.

Please no inquires about sales or preorders at this time.

Otherwise please spread the word and reach out to your favorite steem artists and designers
