Hello steemians, let talk about our shadow today and how its plays and important role in our spiritual life, when i was small i used to be scared of my shadow because his always following, i felt i was in a bondage whenever i see my shadow around me, i also felt the shadow is watching me whenever am doing something bad like stealing meat from the pot. What is shadow?

A shadow is defined as the dark area where the light from a light source is been blocked by an opaque, (an opaque is something that does not penetrate light, a body or object that is not transparent). With the light in front, the shadow always occupies all the three dimensional volume behind the three object.

Pointing and non-point light source

Light is that part of the electromagnetic spectrum, ranging from radio waves to gamma rays. The fluctuation that occurs in the electric and magnetic field is the Electromagnetic radiation waves

Electromagnetic radiation: - this is defined as the streaming of photons, they are a massless particle that travels at the speed of light

A photon is a type of elementary particle representing a quantum of light of other electromagnetic field and other electromagnetic radiation such as light and other carrier of the electromagnetic field

Point source and Non-point source

The point source of light is that type of light only cast a simple shadow which is called the Umbra.

Non-point source

This can also be known as extended source, in this type of light the shadow is divided into three source which are

• Umbra: - the dark portion of a shadow is known as the umbra. This darkest part in moon causes total solar eclipses, the total and partial lunar eclipse is also caused by the “earth umbra”. This umbra is formed when you are standing within it, the object or the body blocks the light rays, preventing you from the light source.

• Penumbra:-this is not a full shadow because the light is not fully covered by the body or object, in this type of shadow the lighter the outer part of the shadow. In the moon the partial solar eclipse is caused while in the earth lunar eclipse is formed.

• Antumbra:- this is the region which the occulting body appears. In this type of source, the occulting object appears entirely contained within the light source. If a person in the antumbra moves closer to observe the light source, the size of the apparent increases until it forms a full umbra.
The shadow becomes blur when the light becomes more brighter. The shadow appear to attract and merge when the two penumbra’s overlap this is known as the shadow blister effect.

How does shadow form

Every light you see radiates from one direction from a particular source of light and then moves through a straight line. When an object or a body is blocked, the light can’t see through it, a shadow is then formed since the light cannot get through the body.

How to determine the length of a shadow

To determine the length of a shadow really varies, its depends on the angle of the light source. You can use a measuring tape or a yard stick to measure the length of a small shadow, but measuring the shadow of a tall building, trees and lager object is not as easy as you think. To measure a shadow length is not professional or practical. When the height of the building casting the shadow is known you can use formulas to calculate instead of using a measuring tape or a yard stick.
