A quick look at null beneficiary payouts when SBDs are printing

If you've been here for a while, you might remember my series of posts visualizing some information about burned token activity. I discontinued it a while ago because of time constraints, and it's currently impossible for me to produce some of the graphs because this SteemDB.io page has gotten stale.

But, in light of the recent switch from STEEM to SBD for author rewards, I thought it would be interesting to take a quick look at the graphs that I can still produce. So, here they are, along with a bit of commentary.

So, let's take a look:

Burn beneficiary activity for one week:

Things that jump out at me here are that:

  • We see the tail end of STEEM printing in light-blue on March 2 and March 3. After that, we see just SP and SBD. Not a surprise, of course, but it's good to know that the visualizations match reality. 😉 We haven't had many chances to see this visualized in the last couple years.
  • The burned SBD total for the week is 1,014.
  • Some of the names in the top-10 list are familiar from when I ran the weekly series. Others seem new to me.

Burn beneficiary activity for one month

Observations here are that:

  • We can see the full wind-down of STEEM printing and ramp-up of SBD printing, running from Feb. 29 through March 3.
  • The total SBD burn for the month is 1,056.
  • Most of the names in the top-10 list are familiar from when I ran the series. There may be one or two that are new. (It might be interesting to take a future look at user retention for #burnsteem25 authors in comparison to other authors).

The burnsteem25 era (May 29, 2022 until today)

Observations here are:

  • SBD printing has been elusive during the burnsteem25 era.
  • The total amount of SBDs burned for the period is 4,408.
  • Again, most of the accounts in the top-10 list are familiar from whenever I last posted for the weekly series.
  • Eyeballing, it looks to me like burn activity has been basically flat for about 6 months. February looks down, but it only had 29 days.
  • It's not obvious whether SBD printing has any effect on the amount of SP that gets burned. This sort of surprises me, since I assume that some authors would be switching from 100% powerup to 50/50 payouts.
  • It's also not obvious whether SBD printing has any effect on numbers of posts or numbers of unique accounts.
  • These last two points might still change if SBDs keep printing for an extended period of time.

Burn beneficiary activity for all time

Commentary:

  • The size of the pie for the @burnpost account in the top-10 list has really shrunk a lot since the last time I remember noticing.
  • With a total of 4,683 SBDs burned, 94% of all SBD burning (beneficiary rewards only) happened after the #burnsteem25 era began.
  • Similarly, with a total of 386,844 SP burned (vs. 361,052 in the previous slide), 93% of all SP burning happened after #burnsteem25 began.

Overall, there's not much in the way of surprises here, but I still think it's interesting to take a look. I hope you agree.

Thank you for your time and attention.
