ONLY THEN (An Original Poem)

Truth telling
through illusion,
picking away at us
again and again,

there are many scars
that can't be seen
but it's always just
one small thing
that wakes us up,

like the pop of a flashbulb,
in an atmospheric instant,
we're forced to recall
the big and small
of who we are
underneath it all

only then do we feel
the weight of our heart
and the ache that shakes us,
a gasp of breath taken
by every generation,

only then do we realize
we have settled
for small luxuries
instead of chasing big dreams

only then can
we truly live
our second chance,
it seems...only then.
