To wear a tie or not. His son was coming home for the first time in seven years, this called for a tie. He had hired a caterer, it was going to be a splendid dinner, his son was bringing his partner, things had to go right.

Jeremiah landed in Nigeria for the first time in seven years. After a disagreement with his father he had left and promised not to return, but now his mom was dead and she was the only one who really cared for him. He had to come back for her.

Chief Aliko was in the living room when the driver returned from the airport with Jeremiah and his partner. He went off to welcome them at the door. He had looked forward to seeing his son for years, the reason behind their initial dispute seemed so insignificant now, but he was a proud Nigerian father, he wasn't one for apologies.

He's acting like the past seven years didn't happen. Like he didn't say he didn't want me as a son, Jeremiah thought. He still held some resentment towards his father, but he was surprised the man could stand seeing him with another man, he didn't even expect to be invited back into the house.

Chief Aliko felt awkward greeting his son's partner. The whole gay thing still didn't sit right with him, but he had prepared for this moment. It didn't matter if his son was gay or not. He just wanted his son back.
