"Hollow World" Part 5

This is a series from a screenplay I wrote called Hollow World ® WGA June 2014.

INT. OLD 8 PASSENGER PLANE - DAY

AUSTIN hesitates.. And then diverts plane away from the storm. He continues to fly now towards the INTERIOR SUN.

ERIC: Now what are we supposed to do?

LARRY: I guess we head South.

KEVIN: He's right.

AUSTIN: None of these gauges work.. Who knows how far we'll even make it.

JESSICA: (puts her hand on AUSTIN's shoulder) We gotta try..

AUSTIN: (convinced) Let's do it.

EXT. MID AIR - JUNGLE - DAY

PLANE glides over OCEAN. A chain of ISLANDS comes into view.

The PLANE soars over the Islands revealing another CONTINENT.

INT. OLD 8 PASSENGER PLANE - DAY

KATELYN stares out window then looks at LARRY.

KATELYN: This place is like paradise.

LARRY: Sure beats Battle Creek Michigan.

(SOUND OF ENGINE SPUTTERS)

AUSTIN: (startled) We're out of fuel!

ALEXIS: No no not again..

AUSTIN: Everyone hang on tight.. We gotta land this thing.

EXT. JUNGLE - ISLANDS - DAY

The PLANE TEARS through TREES coming to an ABRUPT stop.

CUT TO:

PLANE CRASHED in TREES above jungle floor.

KEVIN kicks open the door and jumps out first. Then helps EVERYONE else out of the plane. AUSTIN jumps out last.

ALEXIS: OK now what?

ERIC: We gotta get this thing to fly again.

AUSTIN: How do you expect us to do that genius.. Were out of fuel. (pauses) Plus who knows what else was even damaged.

KEVIN: He's right.

JESSICA: (Looks up mountain) I say we climb to the top and see what else is around us.

AUSTIN: Good idea.

KATELYN: There's no way I can climb all the way up there.

LARRY: We can do this baby. I'll help you.

KEVIN: Mam I will personally carry you if I have to.

LARRY: We'll need our energy though.

LARRY walks over to berry bushes. He grabs some, and walks over to THE GROUP.

LARRY: Here you go. These are excellent.

KATELYN: (proudly) Larry's a botanist.

EVERYONE takes some berries, and then eats them.

AUSTIN: Come on.

AUSTIN walks over to a steep pathway that leads up MOUNTAIN.

EVERYONE else follows.

EXT. MOUNTAIN TOP - DAY

KATELYN is carried by AUSTIN on his back. The rest of the group still walking up steep rocky path. ERIC reaches the TOP.

CUT TO:

From first person view of SMART GLASSES

RECORD light is on and we see land extending as far as we can see.

ERIC V.O: Whoa..

ERIC reaches down and pulls up LARRY. AUSTIN walks up and lets KATELYN down. JESSICA holds MICHAELS hand. ALEXIS helps LARRY and KEVIN walks up last.

CUT BACK TO:

EVERYONE stares out over VAST JUNGLE.

ERIC: What the hell do we do now?

KEVIN: Well were sure not swimming back to Cave City..

JESSICA: Maybe we can build a boat.

AUSTIN: No we keep pushing forward. Maybe we can find more people.

ALEXIS: And maybe they'll know a way out.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

THE GROUP walks through JUNGLE. Coming up to an open area next to a WATERFALL and calm RIVER.

JESSICA: I really have to pee.

JESSICA walks away as ALEXIS runs behind her.

ALEXIS: Me too. I'll go with you.

KATELYN walks over to the water with LARRY and they start to drink and wash their faces.

KEVIN sits next to ERIC.

AUSTIN helps MICHAEL wash his face and drink.

(SOUND OF ALEXIS AND JESSICA SCREAMING)

CUT TO:

JESSICA stands scared against rock wall cornered by a RAPTOR.

AUSTIN reaches down above JESSICA.

AUSTIN: JESSICA!

JESSICA reaches up and grabs AUSTIN's hand. He pulls her up.

A TIGER jumps from out of the TREES and tackles the RAPTOR.

JESSICA: Holy Shit!

AUSTIN: Where's ALEXIS?

JESSICA: (cries hysterical) The other dinosaur.. The other THING.. It got her.. I mean it..

AUSTIN: (Hugging her) (pauses) It was a RAPTOR.. And that was a damn TIGER!

JESSICA: Wheres MICHAEL?

They both take off run back towards the GROUP.

AUSTIN runs up to KEVIN.

KEVIN: What happened?

AUSTIN: We have to get out of here.. There's dinosaurs and shit man.

JESSICA talks to KATELYN in the background by the water. We can barely make out what she says, but its obvious. LARRY holds KATELYN.

JESSICA: (still crying) She's dead

ERIC runs up to KEVIN and AUSTIN holding MICHAEL.

ERIC: What happened?

AUSTIN: We need to get the hell out of here.

EXT. JUNGLE - RAINING - DARK

STORM CLOUDS block the light from the Inner Sun.

RAIN POURS as the group walks through the JUNGLE.

THE GROUP sits on branches that have formed a foundation in the treetops.

LARRY: Tigers can still climb trees..

A BEAT.. RAIN STILL POURS

AUSTIN: Yeah but Raptors can't.

JESSICA: (holding MICHAEL) God knows WHAT ELSE is out there.

KEVIN: We need to stay close and listen close. We don't know whats down here or who.
