Have you felt being threatened when your friend or foe gained fame, power, value and wealth? While sitting in throne you are having expressions of why him? Not again! The feeling thtat you want to be in his situation for you visualize you can do much better than him but you ended with the thought "I must pull him down!" In that way, you are already conquered by envy and jealousy that eventually transformed you to a crab! Have you obeserve crabs in the bucket? All of them have the desire to elude in the place where everyone is insatiable yet, when they see one of them rising from the bottom of the bucket then they will pull it back. Therefore, they will remain stagnant in the bucket until they will be served in the kitchen. This is what you call "Crab Mentality," a competition where there would be no triumph until one will surrender in pulling others down.

This mentality is associated with short-sighted, non-constructive thinking rather than unified, the unconsciously driven out emotions. Crab is the semblance of the zodiac sign "Cancer." Literally, cancer in the society is referred to as a viral disease, an evil that ubiquitously spreads poison in the surrounding and destroys harmony, relationship, peace, and life.

Envy is a Deadly Sin./Ang Inggit ay isang Nakamamatay na Kasalanan.

In nature of human behavoir, it is already common to develop skills and strive for survival, stipulating daily routines: eat, perspire, sleep, discharge, and wake up. However, when the limelight of opportunity illuminates a person, it is the moment where he harnesses his capabilities and reaches his personal goals. But some people will just obstruct his way and express a strong desire to pull him back. Moreover, once acquired, this mentality is a mirror of deceit. No matter how many times you want to see a good reflection of yourself to impress others, you will still see a dim reflection behind a person with bloodshot eyes holding a knife of stained with blood. The crucial angle associated with the crab mentality where you perceive yourself that everyone is your enemy and everytime people will oppose you, is when you will paradoxically stamp them down.

"If neither I can have it, then nor you."/ "Kung di ko makukuha, di mo rin makukuha."

The inflation of this metaphor will become clear when people don't visualize the bigger picture in acquiring this mentality. Indeed, we are equal in terms of human rights but it does not mean that we share the equal privileges in life. There are people that shedding in poverty and some are abundant in pot of gold. Diverse from various careers, people will face different storms and quakes in reaching the pinnacle of success. See how unique a person from the others, so why should compare the distinct capabilities with them? You can do the same particular thing but not probably the same technique and passion. To elude this mentality, do not stipulate false rumors. Instead, let yourself become the evidence that you are worth for the aspirations you want to avhieve. Destroying other's name in order to gain fame is frantic because to face battles, we need each other's helping hand.

It spread on Schools. /Kumalat na ito sa mga Paaralan.

In academic integration of playing this mentality, it may be the source of losing someone's perception towards a brighter aspect of having education. This is because, its application can be a form of physical, verbal or creating black propagandas. This can be visualized not only in the society but specifically at school where rampant of these cases occur. Students may somehow regard this crab mentality as a cliche or a norm in their environment. This is best exemplified by bullying, a medium of discriminating a person's physical or mental attributes in an exploited manner. This speculation may weigh as less than nothing, but considering that it can be a way of injecting personal hatred and jealousy to a student who is being bullied, this might trigger to oppress him and cause low-performance during class or worst, commit suicide due to psychological pressure. This sounds exaggerated but this is one of the rising cases that contribute to the death toll in the world. That is why be constructive in generating criticism to anybody in school or any place, because it is where the evil of a crab takes place.

Dont say it, do it! /Wag mong sabihin, gawin mo!

In abolishing this trait, you cannot simply say "stop the crab mentality." Rather, it must begin within yourself, on how you react internally. Changing a habit is difficult for it is not just achieved in just a blink of an eye; it takes a gradual process to achieve it. First, accept the reality that life is dynamic. Sometimes you're up but sometimes you're down. Not at all times will you receive all things you want, for problems are always there which eventually lead to confusions. Next is to become optimistic and consider that everything happens for a reason. Be fair to everyone and don't envy and jealousy ruin you. Consider the efforts of other people on how they achieved things. Remeber, you are not the only one who is striving for success. Also, concentrate on your God-given talents. Be grateful of it and enhance it for your self-development for someday it will be the key towards realizing your dream. Then ask God for help in every concern you want to know, so that there will be deprivation of insecurities. Lastly, break down your goals into smaller ones that will give you a feeling of contentment and you will enjoy every task you do.

In this generation, people are busy in making themselves famous or in building their power more. Thus, that is not the factor to fathom success. It is not about the wealth that has been garnered, the fame that made popularity, or the goals achieved in life, but it is all about the things that made a person happy with contentment in their heart. Achieving it is like a garden that needs cultivation. You will harvest what you sow; if you will put the seeds with a sterling virtue of dedication so it will flourish. Yet, when we let hatred, anger, envy and jealousy do it, then you already know what the outcome would look like--Crab Mentality.
