Coffee Time Meditation #1 -- Aug. 26th

“If what you’re reading isn’t helpful, inspiring or informative - unsubscribe” — Jacqueline Fischer

Thoughts on Today’s Quote

In this digital age we’re surrounded by a constant barrage of information. It comes in text, video and audio form.

How often do you focus your attention on something simply because it was eye or ear catching?

And how often is that focus wasted but we fail to look away and focus on something else of greater value? Or even worse, looking away and bouncing from focal point to focal point?

I find myself heading down rabbit holes way too often because of jumping from focus point to focus point for no reason other than something caught my eye. I have to catch myself, jerk myself away from chasing the rabbit and direct myself to whatever task is at hand.

I do receive a lot of email, many of them from people I once requested something from and they continue to send me material in the hope that I will buy something from them. I find after a while I stop reading their material because I have lots of other material coming in.

Yet, for some reason, I don’t get around to unsubscribing. “Just scan the subject line,” I tell myself. After all, if the person had something I wanted once, there may be more coming. Seems innocuous to just keep receiving it and scanning subject lines until I see something I want. The reality is, I burn up more time because I need to take the time to decide if I should read the message or not and then deleting it.

I really should unsubscribe and stop letting the fear of missing out (FOMO) rule my inbox.

Do you let FOMO run you or do you focus your reading and/or attention on only what helps, inspires or informs you?

Who is Jacqueline Fischer?

That’s a really good question. I did a search to try to find who the author of this quote is. While I found people named Jacqueline Fischer, I couldn’t be sure if any of them were the lady the quote came from.

I will try to find information on the author of the quotes I share. I wont always be successful.

Don’t know about you, but I find it interesting to know who the person was that anyone took the time to record or quote that person.

So, think of someone, like me, sitting quietly with the first fresh coffee of the day and mediating about the words of the quote. That would be me, or it could be you.
