My Artwork for Today 🎨
This artwork is specially made for @sethlinson's surreal art contest.
I always liked imagining swinging in the galaxy.
Title🎨 Pod Playground
Did you know a group of Dolphins is called a pod? Usually, they consist of 12 or more dolphins in one pod. They swarm to places where there's an abundance of food.
I think it's time to draw marine animals for a change.
Last year I drew many wildlife creatures, take Zeus for example:
Zeus the blind rescued owl
I am a wildlife artist with a cause!
I use my art to speak out for animals who are treated poorly and hunted. Extinct is forever, I hope no other animals become extinct.
This year, I'm doing more of concept/ fantasy and surrealism since I haven't made any realism art this year. It's a good chance to practice another genre.
Dolphins have the IQ of 7.0 and are the smartest water animals.
- In many instances, Dolphins have saved many surfers from sharks and drowning.
- They also love to play with humans and can be trained easily to do tricks.
Dolphins always have a positive and cheerful aura.
HOWEVER
Many Dolphins are killed by eating plastics and affected by pollution.
A bone museum here in my city had collected the bones of a beached dolphin. When they opened its stomach they found many plastics inside. The poor dolphin must have eaten some and gone ill.
I hope people realize the impact they have on poor and defenseless animals.
Let's appreciate marine life and save them
Here's to my first dolphin art ever.
The materials I used for this are:
- Mechanical pencils
- Sketchpad paper 12"x18"
- Black gel pen
- Black fine tip pen 0.5 and 0.07
- Colored gel pens:
- Metallic gel pens: blue, gold and silver
- Colored pencils
- White signo pen
- Broad tip marker
- Hard eraser

✍️ First step sketch
✍️ Inking - it still looks informal here. Filling color and shades always does the job.
✍️ Use markers to fill background
✍️ Color the dolphins gold. To achieve gold effect I used
- Lime Yellow
- Yellow green
- Pink
- Orange
- Yellow
- Red
- Gold color
- Sky blue
- Dark green
✍️ Then I draw and fill some black Dolphins
It looks like this now.
- I also shaded the woman, her hair, dress and the swing with black and grey colored pencils.
✍️ I draw stars using metallic blue white and gold.
How to create stars:
(1) draw dots of any size all around
(2) to draw stars with rays make a big dot and make it pool then flick your pen upward and you see how youve made a ray.
The final output! 😱
I made this with a total duration of 6 hours. These are three good shots I took, It can't fit in the scanner so I will have to make do with mobile shots for now.
