Well I promised that I would get the rest of this drawing challenge up! It's not a contest or anything, but boy would I love to see some of you draw him...
Anyway this is just one drawing, but I have quite a few step by step pics. If you missed part one go to steemit@granblock and start with number one. Just a suggestion
The Shading Begins
Okay, so we start here... notice down the right side of image above - I have added some dark graphite and am getting ready to start shading. What I am holding in my hand is a blending stick - just a hard paper stick you can get in most art stores. They are really cheap!
I have already shaded down the left side under the left arm with a cast shadow on his body.
Filled the hair in somewhat and tried to make the edges a little raggedy... this looks more realistic (in my opinion).
The image above is where I finally noticed that on the left side of his torso I only have two abs showing, so I added a small line at the top . This will be shaded and smoothed out.
Also added some graphite to the loin cloth and started shading with the blending stick.
Blending blending blending... this is when you have to think like you are sculpting. It's the most fun!
Smoothed over the new "ab" to make it more subtle.
Notice that I am using what is called a "maul" stick - if you hold it just right you can lean your hand on it while drawing and not smudge everything. Don't worry it's almost impossible not to smudge a lot! ha ha
Softened the right side of the torso shadows.
Also adding some fine hairs to the head - keep those ends looking rough and uneven.
The Un Enhanced Final Image
Notice on the right ear that some little marks just kind of showed up while I was drawing. Remember I mentioned that some idiosyncrasies just show up sometimes? Well I started to see them in the shading while I was working and I just went with it and emphasized them. They look like weird little warts. Coool...
Oh forgot to mention the other mistake. The hand on the left is smaller than the one on the right. With proper perspective the hand on the left should be larger. Oops!
