Revisiting Japan

I took an amazing three week trip to Japan a couple years ago, and I've been revisiting the collection of over 2,000 photos I took while I was there, and felt the urge to recreate some of them in paint. :)

While the photos themselves are incredible, I'm really happy with how nostalgic the watercolors came to feel to me, and I'm happy to have this little series to be able to frame, and put up with whatever else I have on the walls of my apartment.

The scenes all seem pretty different, but all of the photos were taken on the same day. My fiance and I spent it walking all around this little middle of nowhere village town that was surrounded by the most incredible mountains and rice fields. I remember it being humid and hot in the town, but when we broke away from the buildings, the breeze in the air was incredibly refreshing, and watching it comb through the leaves of the rice fields was overwhelmingly peaceful and was the closest thing to "zen" I had ever witnessed.

This day easily became one of my favorite experiences. Literally just wondering through unknown territory, and around every corner we managed to find something new, and beautiful, and breathtaking that we in no way expected, or planned for that day. I'll be chasing that high on our next trip. Hope you enjoy! <3
