Bubbles - my dragon for Dragon Art Contest

This is my entry for @kristyglas Dragon Art Contest and I think the contest is a wonderful idea.

It started today as I turned on Diablo 3, took a random piece of paper to take notes as I played. I wanted to have my mind blank and to be brainless for a couple of hours. Little did I know. Heheheee.

Paper was a printout of some text I used few months ago and just turned it around to see a "clean" side. I'm drawing a lot ever since I started this personal challenge but I haven't thought about that at the time. It feels so wonderful. It took me some time - I don't know how long but the game logged me out :)

I have a dragon for the contest :) and I'm happy.

Meet Bubbles!

He is pretty small for a dragon, pretty colorful, cute and like every other dragon he can fly. He also has a different ability entirely and his special ability is to blow BUBBLES! Yup, his breath weapon are bubbles. Those slow flying, gliding beautiful bubbles. They bring joy and happiness to people around him and to Bubbles himself.

Here he is:

Here is my creating process for Bubbles...

At first I had a different idea and the dragon I ended up sketching and inking looked like this:

I wasn't quite happy with the result and decided to go for something more cute and friendly:

I was very happy with the initial lines of the second sketch and I had a finished drawing in my mind. It was all clear and I knew where to go with it. I did the inking and added a few more details:

Notice the first dragon far on the right :p

After I got the lines down, I cleared the pencil lines with eraser and started thinking about how to best apply the colors. I went with greens and yellow for main color, and pink, orange and red to supplement it. Made the eyes blue as well as bubbles. I did a small experiment and put the lighter color closer to the edge of outline. I think it looks good, adds some depth as well. I believe he looks cute enough to enter the competition and win.

And I ended up with Bubbles:

This photo is a bit shadowy so I took another one (it is the 1st photo).

Have fun doing what you like and keep on steemin!
