Delicacy Diary of Catwoman Teresa#32: FuShengTing Tonkatsu

title_image

This restaurant I will introduce today is the first fried pork cutlet fast food restaurant in Taiwan. It has opened numerous branches throughout Taiwan. Unlike the usual Japanese tonkatsu restaurant, you can enjoy a fast and convenient dining environment at FuShengTing. Although the decoration is not as exquisite as other tonkatsu restaurants, it is cheap and convenient without sacrificing the quality of the food. It's definitely a cheap and fabulous dish.

The Logo of FuShengTing Tonkatsu

In the custom of the Japanese, there is a habit of eating fried pork cutlet for good luck, because the latter two sounds of the pork cutlet (TonKaTsu) are the same as the victory (KaTsu). Therefore, the name of FuShengTing originated from this, and hope that customers eat delicious pork chops which can bring happiness and luck.

FuShengTing uses the four-leaf clover as the LOGO, which is also around this idea. In FuShengTing's website, there is such a saying:

The four leaves of the Japanese legendary clover, the first leaf represents faith, the second leaf represents hope, the third leaf represents love, and the extra fourth leaf represents luck.Once upon a time, there was a legend that Eve had taken the four-leaf clover out of the garden of Eden. Each leaf contained four things that everyone dreamed of, love, health, fame and wealth. Anyone who finds a four-leaf clover will have unexpected luck and is therefore also known as a lucky grass.

Environment

This FuShengTing is located in the food court of Keelung's a.mart. Although it is an open area, FuShengTing separates from other food court's dining area and puts some effort into the decoration. The whole store uses a large number of wooden strips to create a simple sense of fashion. As soon as you enter the door, you can see the mini Japanese garden with bamboo, and you can see decorations with Japanese style everywhere. Although the decor is not luxurious, there is still an atmosphere to enjoy Japanese cuisine.

Soup and rice

You can have as many rice and miso soup as you want. The rice is made from Taiwan's famous Xiluo rice. The soup is full of the sweet taste miso and the flavor of bonito flakes. The unlimited supply can also have such a level, which shows the intention of the store. Kelp and chopped green onion are also available, which can be added to the soup according to personal preference.

Sauce

Each table is equipped with the sauce for fried food and the sauce for shredded cabbage. It is convenient to use without sharing with other guests. There are original and spicy flavors tonkatsu sauce, but there is no big difference between them.

Menu

Every meal on the menu has photos, making it easy to choose. The main food is fried, grilled, and udon noodles, mainly fried food. After all, it is the pork cutlet store.

You can also see the menu provided on the official website here.

In addition to the main course, all the dishes include white rice, miso soup, and irregular changes of Japanese pickles and desserts. The rice and miso soup are provided indefinitely. The price falls between US$6~$7, which is not much different from the price of other food in the food court, but it is more delicious and more cost-effective.

Food

The table is served quickly, it is not a braggart to emphasize as the fast food restaurant, they must have an SOP for making fried food. As mentioned before, soup, rice, pickle, and dessert are all available in a set meal. Each main meal also comes with a large amount of shredded cabbage, which balances the greasy feel of the pork cutlet.

The pork cutlet is put on an iron mesh which avoids the sauce of shredded cabbage to affect the crispy taste. As seen from the photos, the proportions of the powders on the outer layers of the different fried materials are different. You can see the professional attitude of FuSengTing towards making food from these details.

The sauce is an important contributor to the improvement of the taste of tonkatsu. There is its own secret for the sauce of each tonkatsu shop, which is basically sweet and salty. The tonkatsu is very crispy when it has just been fried. If you like this crispy taste, you can put the sauce on the side. I personally think that the outer skin is a bit too dry, so I prefer to pour the sauce on the pork chtlet. However, it should be noted that the sauce will make the crispy feeling slowly decrease. I will suggest adding the sauce when you want to eat so the crispness may be just right.

My favorite in the tonkatsu restaurant is the unlimited supply of shredded cabbage. Usually, I have the habit of eating a lot of vegetables, and I don't eat fried foods . So I always have a sense of guilt about eating fried food. However, a large number of shredded cabbage reduce the imbalance of excessive intake of meat. The fresh and crispy shredded cabbage coupled with the special grapefruit dressing which grabs the limelight of the main dish.
The grapefruit dressing is a bit too salty. It is recommended not to add too much to avoid excessive sodium intake.

The container filled with grapefruit dressing is also a bit clever. You can mix the sauce evenly by grabbing the ball on the bottle cap and rotating clockwise before using it. Isn't it smart?

We order the double meal with FuShengTing's coupon this time, so we had two more side dishes. The sliced burdock is marinated in a slightly sweet and sour flavor, tastes crispy and refreshing.

Generally speaking, although Fushengting is not the best Japanese tonkatsu I have ever eaten, but at this price, eating a set meal with such a certain level can be regarded as a value for money. Especially in the food court where I seldom find good food, I can't help but be happy to have this good choice.

Do you like the restaurant I introduce today? I will introduce more good food to you. Please stay tuned!
