Hey Steemit!

So I was in the West part of Singapore the other day and we had heard of a reeeally good prata place in the area and decided to check it out for ourselves!

If you're unfamiliar with roti prata or roti canai, it is an Indian-influenced flatbread dish found in several countries in Asia, including Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore. It is usually served with dal or other types of curry, but can also be cooked in a range of sweet or savoury variations made with a variety of ingredients. Popular ingredients include egg, cheese, chocolate, banana, and condensed milk. Although, there have been many new "hipster" flavours popping up these days like honey and nutella.

So I read that prata is not actually found in India; I'm not sure of that myself since I've never been to India before, but it is a very popular breakfast dish/snack in Malaysia. It is said that the dish was brought over from India by Indian Muslims, also known as "Mamaks" in Malaysia, and is served in mamak stalls located in both rural and urban Malaysia. My mum was born in Malaysia and I remember every time we would go over to visit my relatives we'd always eat a prata breakfast at the same restaurant (called Jalan Kayu or smt), and share a big tissue prata. 😊

So the restaurant we went to this time is called ENAQ The Prata Shop, and it was kinda out of the way near Chinese Garden. Nestled within a few blocks of public housing (HDB blocks), it may be a little difficult to locate but they do have another branch in Ghim Moh.

The restaurant started in 2008 and quickly became famous after they received recommendations on Trip Advisor! I'm so glad they're doing well because they really do deserve it for their delicious food! 😋

So we started with 2 plain prata and 1 egg prata, with bandung (rose syrup drink with condensed milk). The plain prata was sooooo crispy! It was probably the crispiest prata I've ever eaten.

We also ordered the prata bomb, which is prata with condensed milk inside. It was kinda sweet for my taste but with the curry it's really yummy too!

Here's a picture of the stall inside the restaurant and the menu:

It was a really scrumptious meal and I'd definitely go again if I'm in the area. 😃

Have you tried roti prata before? What's your favourite flavour? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for reading!
