Technology is now a main aspect of our lives. It influences day to day activities of individuals. There are some that even play a monumental role in our lives. Like social media for instance, many cannot stay a day without checking their profiles, while there are other technologies that are both for now and the future. With the rapid growth of acceptance of these technologies, within a short time it will become available for all. One has to prepare for such times, because it is going to change the way we work and do quite a number of things. I am going to be talking about some of these technologies in no specific order of importance, since all are for the long-term.
Blockchain Technology
I'm certain this is not the first time you are seeing that, since you are on Steemit. Blockchain technology is a decentralised technology. It is the linking and securing of blocks using cryptography. A blockchain is used to store data across many computers in different location, in a way that the information cannot easily be altered since it is not stored in a specific location. Storing across many computers also makes it public and easily verifiable. Blockchain technology is like a new kind of Internet.
Here are some of the uses of Blockchain technology.
Internet of Things (IoT)
The Internet of Things is possible because of blockchain technology. It involves the communication of devices due to the combination of software, actuators, sensors and network connectivity which ease the exchange of data between the devices. It makes use of smart contracts too. In the Telecommunications industry, big companies are interested in IoT and are already embedding it on devices. Wearable devices are not excluded when you talk of Internet of Things.
Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality (VR) is a technology that involves the use of headsets to produce realistic images, sounds are some other feeling that makes an individual feel as if he is present in a place he isn't. Popular VR headsets includes Google Cradboard (which is the cheapest), Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift etc. Virtual Reality is like visiting a place with one's mind. There are some devices that supports VR technology. New models of smartphones have gyroscope, which is one of the tools the technology uses. With this technology you could check out places, play games and have some fun. You can check out @crypto3d's profile for some cool VR videos.
Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality is similar to Virtual Reality, just that this time around a headphone may not needed. It is not limited to computers and smartphones. It brings the digital world into the real world. Like Google glass for instance, which is a wearable device that head-mounted. It looks like normal eyeglasses but with an enhanced display that looks like that of a smartphone. In the gaming world, Pokemon Go is another fine example.
Autonomous Vehicles
As the name implies, autonomous vehicles are cars that do not need a driver in it for it to be controlled, it is self driving. The technology relies on sensors, that is sensitive to the environment without the human control. This helps to reduce accidents, as the vehicle is able to sense other objects and deflect. The advantages of autonomous cars are just too numerous to mention. It could be very helpful to the aged, disabled and young ones. About a decade ago, it only sounded as fiction but now quite a number of big companies are investing billions of dollars in building driverless vehicles. Autonomous is different from automated. Automated cars needs to be controlled by a person, while autonomous cars are self-driven.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial Intelligence is the intelligence that is exhibited by computers. It also involves computer-programmed robots acting as if it has human intelligence. In some companies today, when you visit you are welcomed by robots. Also when you have problems in tech companies, one is attended to by these robots. The world is beginning to embrace Artificial Intelligence. This also includes Voice Assistants found on smartphones like Google Cortana, Siri, Alexa and various other assistants.

How do you think the future will be with these technologies?
