Tell your story contest -- Doughtaker's story

Wheel

Round and round the roulette wheel of life goes;
where the ball stops, nobody knows.

I gamble for a living, it's what I've been doing before steemit and still plan to continue doing while here on steemit. Video poker and slot machines are my main games of choice. While I don't intend to focus on writing on a single subject, I do intend to have some of my posts discuss gambling. I have already written a gambling article about the house edge which I submitted for a different contest.

No one introduced me to Steemit; I stumbled onto Steemit while doing some research out of curiosity after a conversation I had with a friend a few weeks ago. The story actually begins several years ago, when this same friend had talked to me about Bitcoin. At the time it was clear that he had some misconceptions about Bitcoin, so I corrected him and in the end he decided not to join the Bitcoin fray. In our most recent conversation, I asked him if he was up to anything interesting and he brought up cryptocurrency and altcoins, in particular Ethereum and Monero.

Now I was aware that altcoins to compete with Bitcoin had arisen, but never thought there would've been so many. So I started reading on a few sites, found some names of altcoins, and did some research. Most of them had similar wording on how to get started on the road to success: get a mining rig with a good GPU, and try your luck. One stood out as different from the rest: Steem, and in particular the Steemit platform. After reading a little more about Steemit, I decided to take the plunge and join. After all, the worst that could happen is nothing. And if things go really well, maybe I've got a new career that's more enjoyable than gambling.

My hobbies are nothing out of the ordinary for an Internet denizen: playing video games, surfing the Web, watching Youtube videos... typical Internet stuff. I haven't been on Steemit long enough to have had any truly positive or negative experiences. As for my life after Steemit, it's way too early to even try to predict what the future holds.
