If you were on steemit far back, around 4 or 5 months after its inception, you would have known #til. It was a very popular tag.
#til stood for: "Today I Learned".
How It Become Popular and Why Was It Popular?
Well, #til was made popular by a guild that formed around it, who distributed voting power, enough to support steemians who created #til steemit posts.
Ofcourse, this required a ton of curation because upon realizing that #til was buzzing with support and that #til posts were earning good rewards, steemians began always using the tag.
"Curation involved curators, who searched #til for valid and well researched #til posts and submitted them to the TIL channel on steemit.chat, after which the guild takes over.
Infact, my first real earning came in #til. @sykochica told me; "have you heard of #til?"; "Just do a post using the #til and let it be something researched, on any topic and something interesting that you learned" and i did just so and i saw my post earning tangibly.
Look at this post from 7 months ago:
"Til: 10 Keywords You Should Never Search On Google!!!"
It had a staggering 2.79$ on it. Yes, that was something to celebrate months back, plus you will see that the post had whale-vote on it!
Ultimate aim for #til was to make steemit a hub for new-found knowledge. To fill steemit with enough worthy content and make it the new face of the internet, inorder to attract reddit-like internet users, who see reddit.com as the face of the internet.
Infact this is what steemit should be!
We have the greatest minds on Mama Earth here on steemit and a culture of "mining with minds" incessantly. Thus, even our excerpts should be valuable Intel for the rest of the world out there!
I want to try revive #til a bit, possibly with a twist!
For now, terms are not ascertained but the plan is to make it a very fun endeavor. It will start with a small bounty of 30 SBDs, which is subject to increase based on turn up (participation).
I will be very creative when it comes to prizes but this will be evident overtime. There are currently many tools to make this happen, including many SteemGiggers who relish in using their creative to create just the perfect gift!
Each week's contest will cover a theme (niche), which i may develop or otherwise get suggestions. Basically, this TIL will be niche-based. So for instance; this week, we may decide to cover #tilbanks, where contestants will be expected to learn about and create content, based on things they have learned regarding banks e.g facts, good-to-know(s), did-you-know(s), secrets, news, fresh-news etc
We want to use this means to fill the search engines with steemit posts in every Niche or industry; therefore accomplishing organic steemit growth.
Steemit posts are known to do well in search engines, hence; imagine 10 or more unique steemit posts created weekly, covering a particular interest, industry or field.
I am indeed hoping for many participants! See this as an avenue to learn more and improve your knowledge-base, while having the potential to earn upvotes, visibility and a possible bounty.
I will try to ensure to re-steem posts from every participant as i currently have over a thousand followers.
SteemGig Contest Proper
This week's theme is #tilbanks!
1. Please use this #tilbanks as your first tag and use this; "Today I Learned" (Banks) as guide when creating your content!
What you learn will definitely turn out unique as "banks" is a broad subject. Any form of entry is welcomed as long as it teaches something. So your posts can be funny, plain, creative, comics, art, videos, infographs, texts etc
2. Start your title with "Steemgig Contest" and use #tilbanks at the end of your title e.g
SteemGig Contest: Why banks in Jamaica Don't Accept Bitcoin? #tilbanks
3. Use #steemgigs as one of your tags
4. Submit links to your entry in the comment section of this post!
This weeks judge is @kus-knee!
Prize will be broken down among winners equally. "Same applies if bounty increases!"
If there is only one or two applicants, the entire bounty will still be distributed.
If no participant, we'll try again with new terms!
Every entry in the comment will be resteemed!
