Kanchanaburi Province is located about a 2 1/2 hour drive west of Bangkok, and is most famous for being the location of the bridge of the River Kwai which was made famous by the movie of the same name. For many locals and ex-pats this peaceful little town on the river makes a perfect weekend getaway.
RAFT-HOUSES
Most of life in Kanchanaburi takes place around the river, and although there is an amazing amount of war history in this town, I will save that for another post. Today I want to inform you about the great accomodation options to be found on the river. There are numerous guesthouses which offer floating rooms on the Kwai river from about $10 - $50 per night, and they vary from pretty basic, to very nice.
The room I am showing you today is located at Bamboo Guesthouses and costs $35 per night. For that you get a double-room on the river, and when I say on, i mean "on". The room has air-con, tv, wi-fi, fridge and bathroom with hot water...pretty much everything you need. It also has a long balcony where you can sit and watch river life pass you by.
From my room, you even get views up to the famous Bridge over the River Kwai. The cool river breezes and gentle motion of the water make this a wonderful place to relax on a hot Thai summer day. Although some weed is in the river in front of the guest house about 500 metres up, there is a nice sandy bank if you wish to take a swim in the clear refreshing water. I highly recommend Kanchanburi for a visit if you are ever in Thailand, and while there you must stay in a floating river guesthouse.
Have a Great Weekend Steemers :)
