What up my Steemians, welcome to the @D00k13 Digest, in my home town of Port Alberni you will find one of the best tubing rivers in all of British Columbia and this is part one of our adventure! We left our car at Papermill Dam and headed out Beaver Creek to the rifle range, remember if you want to use their property to check in at the office. The rifle range is the safest and easiest way to access the river from below the falls, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go from Stamp Falls Park as you will go over the falls. Sad to say it happens at least once a year. Make certain you pack all your gear that cannot get wet in waterproof or ziploc bags, other than my GoPro we only have munchies and our vaporizers in ziploc bags. It takes about 3 1/2 - 4 hours to get all the way down so we also made certain to have plenty of sunscreen and drinks!
Starting off was pretty slow going, water was fairly cool but completely comfortable. Our first bit of rapids according to the GoPro clocked us at a top speed of 7 KM/H interesting feature of the GoPro I am enjoying using. I purchased a floating handle from Walmart for $20 just incase I happened to drop the camera I would not lose it to the depths in the current. Clearance in some areas was an issue not as bad as previous trips we have taken, later in the year it only gets worse to the point you have to carry your tube for very small stretches.
Our first swimming hole is really the only good one to stop at not in the current, the river slows right down in this spot and you can just chill in the depths floating with the edy. There is a awesome rope swing at the spot also making it a good place to stop and get a swim in before spending to much time on the water. We had a dog audience here, very timid girl, seemingly uneasy by the water but she was super friendly.
We came across an entire area of riverbed completely covered in mussels, I am not certain if you can eat freshwater mussels? I don't see why not, I will have to remember to look into that for our next trip down the river. There were so many things to record I decided to split the footage into two vlogs, keeping it short using the GoPro Quik software.
Watch out for part two where we see a ton of eagles, run into some kids at the dam and finish our tube ride with the best rapids right at the end!
