Images of broken light, which
Dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on across the universe.
There is little I can say about this photo in terms of pointing out uniquely Japanese things like I have been doing with my previous photos.
So just some misc things off the top of my head:
This river is the Otc River (otogawa/乙川) and was a somewhat important river back in the day for sending rice to Edo†.
Okazaki castle is up and to the right. It's blocked from view by that ugly hotel there.
This is the location of the fireworks show every year, which takes place in August. A pretty important deal around these parts. They block off the area so you can't see what is happening in the river unless you pay boatloads of money. As for the hotel, which has a direct view of the event? Rumor has it that the yakuza rent out every room with a good view for the event.
Fun stuff, eh?
This photo is a long exposure, well over a minute. Unfortunately the bridge I took this from is a relatively busy one and large trucks shake it enough to ruin a shot, meaning I had to stand out there in the cold for multiple long exposure shots. Oh well, totally worth it.
