The wind calmed down as we arrived at our next vista point, and the white, fluffy snow floated ever so gently on our heads.
The parking lot was a bit downstream from the falls, and we walked along the black rocks of the river bank towards a large hill. A trail winded up the side to a viewing area next to the falls, where the roaring water poured straight down, as if covering a hidden doorway of a giant's home.
I glanced to the side and took a photo of the river bank, with a small town in the distance and lonely ice capped mountain towering over. What a place to live, away from the bustling city and near a steady stream of tourists instead. I wonder if we ruined this magical spot for the locals.
For some reason, my traveling companions did not want to get too close to the falls, some not wanting to walk and some not wanting to get fancy equipment wet. But the waterfall called to me, the roaring Siren.
I alone braved the gentle snowfall to approach the violent waters.
I've found you at last.
The mist from the falls was much heavier now. And the familiar scent reached my half-frozen nostrils. I took a cautious stance, sniffing repeatedly as I tried to trace its location. The smell of fresh blood as well, as it seems the brute had claimed another unsuspecting victim. I took a quick glance behind me, and noted that everyone had disappeared from view.
Suddenly, the waterfall burst open as a giant boulder emerged, headed straight for me. An easy dodge. Through the brief hole in the waterfall, I caught a glimpse of a piercing yellow eye.
"Is that the best you've got?" I taunted the beast. "You're getting sluggish and fat, you ugly brute!"
Just then, the Earth began to shake, and to my horror a giant emerged from the falls, one step at a time, with a single large glaring yellow eye and angry teeth, dripping with the blood of its latest feast. Uglier and larger than I remember. In each of his arms were two more boulders which he promptly threw.
I leapt aside as the boulders landed with a crack and split open behind me. What terrifying force the giant cyclops has... I better end this quickly. This was not supposed to be a hard fight.
I drew the pistol from my jacket pocket and fired five shots at the yellows of his eyes with trained precision. The giant gasped and lurched back, disappearing behind the waterfall and falling with a thud.
Well, that's that! Putting the pistol away, I turned around and snapped a selfie, and returned to my other friends, pretending as if nothing had happened.
They didn't seem to notice either as they were busy taking photos of the river. They asked me how the waterfall was, and I simply replied that it was cold and misty.
This location was Skógafoss Waterfall, hope you enjoyed my daydream!
