In the same week after visiting Cappadoccia, we decided to visit Pamukkale. It is a very beautiful town in western Turkey. A decent small town with less population, but with very rich history. Cotton white with hot springs and the right choice for the autumn or winter season. Also known with its hugely impressive roman history.
We took a three days trip. We spent one night in the hotel and the rest of the time in the bus. It was a bit exhausting, but worth the visit. At least we could relax in the different pools in the hotel. Roman pool, Turkish Hammam and normal swimming pools.
We were lucky this time and the bus wasn't full, so we had extra seats where we could sleep on our way. We reached Izmir in the early morning and had Turkish breakfast in one of the coffee shops on the sea side. They let us walk a bit in the city center, but everything was still closed.
After Izmir we went to Antalya. It is the best place to have a holiday, swim and spend your time on the beach. I wasn't really in mood to swim, so I had a coffee while reading a book. My friends went to swim. They gave us just one hour time for swimming and having some free time.
After having traditional Turkish food in Antalya, it took us hours to reach our Hotel in Pamukkale. Heavy traffic and boring long waiting hours. We reached the hotel at 11 o'clock and they were so nice to keep the buffet open for us. We had dinner than went to the Roman and Turkish Hammam that they left open for us as well.
In the next day they took us to see the Roman ruins where the Romans built the nearby spa city of Hierapolis. It was very hot there and we were exposed to direct sunlight. First we visited the Amphitheater that was located in the middle of Hierapolis.
While you are walking the remains of the ancient city, you feel like you are having a trip through time. Great architecture that is well preserved. To follow the footsteps of the Ancients and walk on the same roadways is an unforgettable experience.
Unfortunately we didnt had enough time to see everything. It was a huge place and you need a full day to discover it. The ruins in Hieropolis are worth seeing and exploring.
After Hierapolis we went to the Travertine terrace formations. It looks like snow from a distance but it's not. Its magnificent! It was a great experience to walk in the warm terrace pools. A bit slippery, but also rough underfoot.
Many souvenir shops, restaurants and coffee shops around the place. Tourists from all over the world. Enough security was taken so that nobody slips down.
If you decide bathing in Cleopatra's pool you need to pay 35 Turkish Lira extra.
