Hello Steemians
Hope everyone is doing great.
This was my experience at a pottery studio in Singhasani, a very small village in Jodhpur, where potters practice the skills handed down from one generation to the next.
Pottery process is a beautiful thing to watch..almost sensual. It's more intimate for me, I use earthen tea cups every day- morning, evening, late nights as I am a hardcore tea lover. So watching a pot rise up from a lump of clay was an exciting and rewarding experience.
I walked into the studio...
He greeted me and asked what do you need?
I replied- your story... how you make this beautiful art?
I could see the confusion on his face...he was happy to share his art, to express but he also wanted to sell.
I quickly added- and of course, I need lots of teacups and a vase!
And he just smiled...
He demonstrated me each step of making a terracotta product. I could feel his compassion in the process.
Pottery has been one of the most beautiful crafts and forms of expression. A traditional potter mostly works with terracotta on wheels but with modernization, new techniques and materials are involved.
Here in this village, products like camel, deer, antelopes and even fish, breaking a regional monopoly of traditional pottery comes out from the imagination of an artistic potter which is executed carefully and painstakingly.
