Visit to the Cristo Rei National Sanctuary in Lisbon.

On my trip to Lisbon I also had the opportunity to visit the Cristo Rei National Sanctuary, in the municipality of Almada.

At an altitude of more than 100 meters you will find this huge statue that consists of a portico 75 meters high, crowned by a statue of Jesus Christ of 28 meters high, made by the sculptor Fransisco Franco de Sousa.

It is considered one of the tallest buildings in Portugal.

The construction itself was inspired by the Christ Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on a trip of the Portuguese Cardinal in 1934 to that city. Construction began in 1949 and was inaugurated in 1959. Since that time the options for visitors in the surrounding areas have continued to increase. It has been restored several times as well.

On the first floor there is a chapel and exhibition hall with some photos of the building construction.

The view from the base of the Christ statue on the portico is amazing. The best viewpoint to observe the city of Lisbon in all its splendor. I regret not taking more photos but at that moment I was too impressed by the beautiful view that I had before me.

If you arrive in the city of Lisbon for whatever reason, this is a place you have to visit.
